At exactly this stage of the 2010 season, the Arizona Diamondbacks played a role in the collapse of the Padres, sweeping a three-game series at Chase Field in Phoenix as part of the Padres' 10-game losing streak.
The Padres wound up missing the post-season by a game.
Now the Padres have a chance -- make that numerous chances -- to derail the Diamondbacks, whose run to the top of the National League West mimics the Padres' success in 2010.
Starting with a three-game series in Phoenix this weekend, the Padres play 10 of their final 31 games against the Diamondbacks. In fact, seven of the Padres' next 16 games will be at Chase Field in Arizona.
The Padres and Arizona have split the first eight games they have played this season, including the first two games in Arizona.
Since Arizona entered the National League, the Padres have a 37-77 record at Chase Field. Overall, the Padres are 13-7 over the last 20 games and 14-9 over the last 23 games. They had a season-best five-game winning streak snapped in San Francisco last Friday.
