Hamilton out of Texas lineup for child's birth

  •

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Reigning AL MVP Josh Hamilton was scratched from the Texas Rangers' lineup and was with his wife for the birth of their fourth daughter Friday night.

The Rangers said Stella Faith Hamilton was born at 6:35 p.m., about 30 minutes before their game began. They said mother and child were doing good.

Hamilton was originally in the Rangers' lineup for the opener of a series against Oakland before his wife, Katie, went into labor Friday afternoon.

The Rangers had listed Hamilton batting third and playing left field.

Endy Chavez was switched from center field to left field and Craig Gentry was inserted in the lineup playing center. Michael Young batted third, as manager Ron Washington moved up everybody below Hamilton up one spot in the order and put Gentry ninth.
