Cordero moves up another notch on saves list

The Sports Xchange

Francisco Cordero recorded his 322nd career save Friday in the Reds' 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies.

With the save, he moved into 13th place alone on the all-time list. He's been moving up on an almost daily basis all year.

But this one was special because he moved past Jose Mesa. Cordero now leads all pitchers from the Dominican Republic.

"It's a big one," Cordero said. "It was an exciting moment -- not only for me but a lot of people who have been following me. Family, friends, everybody. Now I can relax a little not and not think about it.

"There's been a lot of talk going on. One of my sisters called and said they've got the fridge ready. Everything was ready for tonight. There's a celebration going on right now."

Cordero worked a perfect ninth for the save. It was 19th time this season he's had a "perfect" save. He's second in major to Mariano Rivera in that category.

Cordero has converted 15 consecutive save opportunities.
