As a baseball-first guy, I take stupid, childish joy in being able to say the following, for the first time in years: HA HA HA MY SPORT IS MUCH BETTER THAN YOURS YEAH BABY WHOOO! Take that, Division II football! Bite it, Major League Lacrosse!

It's tough to argue otherwise -- at least this morning, anyway. To fall back on cliches and my own incredibly biased opinions: The NFL is sloggy. The NCAA is corrupt. The NBA is homeless. The NHL is bloated.

Baseball, on the other hand, enjoys labor tranquility off the field and supplies easy exhilaration on it. In the last month, we saw two thrilling individual days (the improbable final night of the regular season and the Game 5 NLDS doubleheader night), one of the most entertaining -- if not best-played -- World Series games of all time (Game 6) and the most compelling World Series in a decade. Sure, there were too many intentional walks and bunts, and sure, the umps once again made a compelling case for beta-testing their eventual android replacements in spring training. But all things considered, baseball is in its happy place about now.

Separately: 1991, 2001, 2011. Don't get caught napping in 2021, guy.

So here are the heading-into-the-offseason Power Rankings, with the St. Louis Cardinals in the out-of-respect top slot reserved for the World Series champs. There's no baseball tonight. That sucks.
