Orioles add Taiwanese lefty
Wei-Yin Chen, a 26-year-old left-handed pitcher from Taiwan, agreed to a three-year, $11.3 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles, and he might jump right into the starting rotation. The contract also has a $4.75 million club option for a fourth year.
"He has the stuff, the pitches to be a good major league pitcher," Orioles vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said. "There's only a few left-handers in the big leagues with his stuff."
Chen spent the past four seasons pitching for the Chunichi Dragons in Japan, where he was 36-30 with a 2.48 ERA in 117 games, 88 starts.
