Orioles sign pitchers O'Day, Eveland

  •

BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles have signed pitchers Darren O'Day and Dana Eveland to one-year contracts.

Claimed off waivers from the Texas Rangers this offseason, O'Day agreed to a $1.35 million deal. The right-handed reliever was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 2011 and is 8-5 with a 2.89 ERA in 186 career games. He made $1,251,000 last season.

Eveland receives $750,000 this year. The left-hander started five games last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA, and has pitched in 100 games in his career.

Eveland came to the Orioles from the Dodgers in a trade for two minor leaguers: left-hander Jarret Martin and outfielder Tyler Henson.

O'Day and Eveland would have been eligible for arbitration, but both agreed to deals before filing.
