If Jones gets his money, he might not spend it in Baltimore
--CF Adam Jones is the Orioles' only remaining arbitration case, with a hearing slated for Feb. 17. Jones -- who has been the subject of trade speculation all winter -- has asked for $7.4 million while the Orioles have offered $5 million. Jones earned $3.25 million in 2011.
--1B Nick Johnson signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to MASNsports.com. Johnson, 33, didn't play in the majors in 2011, but could contend for playing time at first base and designated hitter, or provide depth for the Orioles at Class AAA Norfolk.
--RHP Luis Ayala agreed to a major league contract with the Orioles, according to MASNsports.com. The veteran is likely to appear in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings in Baltimore. Ayala, 34, appeared in 52 games with the Yankees in 2011, posting a 2.09 ERA. The Baltimore Sun reported that Ayala will make $925,000 with a $100,000 buyout on a 2013 club option for $1 million. He has a career ERA of 3.47 with six teams.
--RHP Stuart Pomeranz agreed to a minor league deal with the Orioles, according to Baseball Prospectus. The Cardinals second-round pick in 2003, Pomeranz, 27, has yet to surpass the Class AA level because of injuries. He appeared in two games at Class AA in 2011 after pitching in 51 Class AA games in 2010.
--LHP Kim Seong-Min signed a contract with the Orioles last month, and the backlash from his home country has caught headlines. The Orioles have been banned from sending scouts to amateur Korean Baseball Organization games after signing the 17-year-old from South Korea. Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette praised Kim's command and curveball in the news release following his signing.
BY THE NUMBERS
$800,000 -- RHP Brad Bergesen's contract after an arbitration case landed in the Orioles' favor.
