NEW YORK -- The New York Mets have sent right-hander Jeremy Hefner back to the minors after he made his major league debut.

Hefner was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo before the first game of Monday's doubleheader against San Francisco. Reserve infielder Ronny Cedeno was put on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, because of a strain on the left side of his chest.

The 26-year-old Hefner pitched three scoreless innings in a 6-1 loss to the Giants. After the game, he was optioned back to Buffalo and infielder Jordany Valdespin was recalled from the minor league team.
