--INF Brooks Conrad will come up from Class AAA Nashville before the Brewers' weekend series in San Francisco to replace injured 1B Mat Gamel (torn ACL). The last player cut in spring training, Conrad was hitting .400 with five homers and 13 RBI at Nashville.
--1B Mat Gamel suffered a torn ACL in his right knee chasing down a foul pop fly Tuesday night and will have surgery that could end his season. The diagnosis came when Gamel was sent for an MRI after the game. He returned to Milwaukee on Wednesday to be further examined by team physician William Raasch.
--LF Ryan Braun left the game in the sixth inning Wednesday in San Diego with tightness in his left Achilles tendon. Braun said he first felt it after a hard slide into second base the previous evening. The issue was not considered serious.
--RHP Marco Estrada's scheduled turn in the starting rotation Friday in San Francisco will be skipped to allow the other pitchers to go on regular rest after an off day Thursday. Estrada has been filling in for LHP Chris Narveson, out for the season after rotator-cuff surgery.
--The Brewers were unable to score a run in five innings Wednesday against former teammate RHP Jeff Suppan, who pitched in Milwaukee from 2007-10. Suppan was released before the end of his four-year, $42 million deal expired and spent the entire 2011 season in the minors. He returned to resume his domination when pitching against the Brewers, boosting his record vs. them since 2004 to 7-0 with a 1.81 ERA in 13 games.
BY THE NUMBERS
18 -- Innings without a run for the Brewers in losing the final two games of their three-game series in San Diego.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We're too far into the season to continue to say it's early but the reality is that we just haven't played well to this point. We have to play better in all facets of the game to get where we want to be." -- LF Ryan Braun, on the Brewers' inconsistent play.
