--RHP Lance Lynn's fifth consecutive win boosted the Cardinals to eight games over .500 at 16-8 and hiked their lead in the National League Central Division to a season-high 4 1/2 games over second-place Cincinnati. Among the six divisional teams, the Cardinals are the only ones over .500.
--CF Jon Jay, extending his hitting streak to 11 games (21 for 43, .488) ), and 1B Matt Carpenter each had three hits and LF Matt Holliday knocked in two runs as he had two more hits, giving him five for the first two games of the series.
--RF Carolos Beltran said he had been a "little lost" in his three-for-32 skid which ended with four hits and a career-high seven RBI. But manager Mike Matheny correctly forecast before the game, "He's real close to taking off on a tear."
--Tony La Russa, who retired as Cardinals manager after guiding them to the World Series championship last year, will have his number 10 retired in ceremonies at Busch Stadium before the May 11 game with Atlanta. La Russa took the Cardinals to three World Series in his 16 seasons in St. Louis.
--1B Matt Carpenter had two singles and a triple. He has had one three-hit game and one four-hit game already. Carpenter's time will be decreased, though, with OF/INF Allen Craig back off the injured list and 1B Lance Berkman due to come off the disabled list in the next week or so.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"This guy doesn't panic about anything. You've seen him when fly balls are hit to him and you wonder if he's awake out there. The next thing you know, he's underneath it." -- manager Mike Matheny on the smoothness of RF Carlos Beltran.
