MEDICAL WATCH:

--1B Jim Thome (lower back strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 29. He left May 2 to prepare for his rehab in Clearwater, Fla.

--LHP Cliff Lee (strained left side muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 19. On May 2, he threw a bullpen session for the first time. He hopes to return to the rotation during the week of May 7-13.

--RHP David Herndon (flexor pronator strain) went on the 15-day disabled list April 30. He was shut down for three weeks May 2.

--RHP Mike Stutes (right shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 22. Stutes first felt the pain in mid-March but tried to pitch through it.

--1B Ryan Howard (left Achilles tendon surgery in October 2011) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 26. He saw a wound specialist in Philadelphia on April 23 and again on April 27. He flew to Florida on April 29 to continue his rehab.

--2B Chase Utley (chronic tendinitis in both knees) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 26. He was rehabilitating in Arizona through April, and he could move his rehab to Clearwater, Fla., in early May. There is no timetable for his return.

--INF Michael Martinez (broken right foot) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 26. He was headed to Class A Clearwater to continue his rehab in early May.

--RHP Justin De Fratus (sprained right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 26. He made a rehab appearance April 22 for Class A Clearwater, but his arm didn't respond favorably in the days that followed. He was shut down until late May.
