--LHP Omar Luis Rodriguez agreed to a minor league contract worth between $4 million and $5 million, MLB.com reported. The 19-year-old Cuban was declared a free agent earlier this month, but he had until July 2 to sign or he would have been subjected to the new guidelines that limit spending on international prospects to $2.9 million before teams are assessed penalties. Rodriguez helped Cuba win a bronze medal in the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship and was named to the event's all-tournament team.

--LHP Andy Pettitte will make his eight start of the season Friday, taking on the Mets at Citi Field. Pettitte has started 21 games in his career against the Mets, going 8-5 with a 3.66 ERA. Pettitte has never pitched at Citi Field, making it the 40th different ballpark in which he will have started.

--LHP Boone Logan allowed two runs in a one-inning appearance Wednesday, snapping his 13-game scoreless streak. Logan still has an 18-game, 12-inning shutout streak on the road.

--SS Derek Jeter is hitting .400 against left-handers this season, tying him with Orioles C Matt Wieters for the best average in the American League against southpaws this season (minimum 40 at-bats). Jeter will face Mets LHP Jonathon Niese on Friday, having gone 1-for-3 against him in one previous game.

--OF Tyler Austin was chosen to represent the Yankees in the Futures Game next month in Kansas City, part of the All-Star week festivities. Austin, 20, is hitting .336 with 14 home runs, 50 RBI, a .409 on-base percentage and a .655 slugging percentage in 58 games with Class A Charleston, emerging as one of the top prospects in the organization.

BY THE NUMBERS
53 -- LHP Andy Pettitte's 53 career interleague starts are the most all-time, and he'll make No. 54 Friday against the Mets. Friday will mark his 47th interleague start as a member of the Yankees.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"R.A. Dickey is maybe the best pitcher in baseball right now. As a good friend of R.A.'s, I love seeing him pitch well, but one time a year I want him to struggle. He's having a great season." -- 1B Mark Teixeira, on Mets RHP R.A. Dickey, his former Texas teammate who will face the Yankees on Sunday night.
