Headley sets career best for homers in a season

--3B Chase Headley hit his 13th homer of the season Wednesday night in Cincinnati, eclipsing his previous season high of 12, set in 2009. Headley has five homers and 13 RBI over his last 18 games.

--C Eddy Rodriquez, 26, promoted from Class A Lake Elsinore Tuesday after C Yasmani Grandal went on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique muscle strain, will make his major league debut Thursday afternoon in Cincinnati.

--RHP Tim Stauffer, who has made only one start with the Padres this season because of an elbow strain, worked an inning and threw 19 pitches Tuesday night for the Arizona Rookie League Padres. He allowed an unearned run on a hit. The Padres are hoping he will return to the rotation by the end of the month.

--RHP Kip Wells has faced Reds rookie SS Zack Cozart twice to open a game. Both times Cozart has homered. Wells allowed five runs on five hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings Wednesday to lose his seventh straight decision to the Reds. In his last eight starts against the Reds, Wells is 0-7 with a 8.60 ERA.

--1B Yonder Alonso is 11-for-26 with five doubles, a homer and six RBI in a six-game hitting streak.
