Trio has gone from ice cold to scalding hot

The Sports Xchange

Three days ago, center fielder Cameron Maybin, shortstop Everth Cabrera and right fielder Will Venable had the three lowest batting averages in the Padres' starting lineup.

Today, they are three of the hottest hitters in the major leagues -- all at Petco Park, mind you.

Maybin and Venable both had four hits Tuesday night as the Padres defeated Pittsburgh on Chase Headley's two-run homer in the 10th.

Among them, Maybin, Venable and Cabrera are a combined 27-for-42 (.643) with 10 runs scored and nine RBI over three straight Padres wins.

Venable was 4-for-5 Tuesday night with two doubles, a steal, a walk and three runs scored and is 9-for-13 over the last three games with a homer, two doubles, six runs scored and four RBI. He has raised his average from .238 to .256.

Maybin was 4-for-4 with a walk Tuesday night and is 10-for-13 over the last three games with three runs scored and three RBI -- raising his average from .211 to .230.

Cabrera was 2-for-6 Tuesday and is 8-for-16 over the last three games. He has climbed from .229 to .245.
