--RHP Luke Gregerson allowed one hit with two strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings Sunday to pick up his first save of the season. Gregerson has gone 22 straight innings over 22 appearances without allowing a run. He has allowed 11 hits and three walks with 22 strikeouts during the run.

--RHP Edinson Volquez allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings in Arizona Sunday. He is 2-0 in his last two starts (to even his season record at 9-9) with a 1.98 ERA after going 1-2 in his four previous starts with a 13.83 ERA.

--LHP Clayton Richard picked up the win Saturday night, allowing three runs on seven hits over eight innings. He is 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA in his last five starts and has completed at least eight innings in three of his last four starts.

--LF Carlos Quentin extended his hitting streak to eight straight games with his run-scoring double in the fourth inning Sunday. He is 10-for-28 during the streak with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored. And on Saturday night, he got hit by a pitch for the 16th time, breaking the club record in that dubious category. Kevin Kouzmanoff was hit 15 times in 2008.

--The Padres will tie a franchise record Monday night when RHP Casey Kelly becomes the 15th starting pitcher used by the club this season. Kelly, 22, came to the Padres in the 2010 trade that sent 1B Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox.

--With RHP Casey Kelly being added to the 25-man roster Monday and RHP Dale Thayer coming off paternity leave, the Padres Sunday evening optioned LHP Josh Spence and RHP Brad Boxberger to Class AAA Tucson.

--OF Mark Kotsay played the entire game in right field Sunday, his first complete game of the season.

--3B Chase Headley has 10 homers and 28 RBI in August and 14 homers and 38 RBI since the All-Star break. The 14 homers tie Headley with Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols for the most homers in the major leagues since the All-Star break. And the 38 RBI leads the National League since the break and are second in the major leagues to Adrian Gonzalez's 44 RBI. Ken Caminiti holds the Padres record with 14 homers in August of 1996. Nate Colbert (1972) and Padres hitting coach Phil Plantier (1993) both hit 11 homers in August. Headley is one of four Padres with 10 homers in an August. The club record for August is 38 RBI set by Caminiti in 1996.

BY THE NUMBERS
36-76 -- The Padres all-time record at Chase Field coming into the 2012 season. The Padres had never swept a three-game series at Chase Field. Now they have swept the first two, three-game series of 2012 at Chase Field and have won seven straight games in the Diamondbacks home since the end of last season.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Fantastic play. One of the best I've seen deep in the hole like that." -- Padres manager Bud Black on the play SS Everth Cabrera made on Arizona's Justin Upton in the eighth inning Sunday with the Padres protecting a 5-4 lead. Upton shot a sharp grounder into the 5.5-hole. Cabrera went to his right, made a diving stop on the outfield grass, bounced to his feet and fired a perfect, 130-foot, submarine-style strike across the infield to nail the swift Upton.
