Spahn immortalized in poem

BOSTON -- Text of a poem written by Boston Post sports editor Gerald V. Hern that appeared in the newspaper Sept. 14, 1948, as Warren Spahn and Johnny Sain led the Braves to the NL pennant:

First we'll use Spahn, then we'll use Sain,

Then an off day, followed by rain.

Back will come Spahn, followed by Sain,

And followed, we hope, by two days of rain.
