NEW YORK -- Goose Gossage and Fernando Valenzuela will manage top minor
leaguers in the Futures game during All-Star weekend at Houston.
Gossage, a nine-time All-Star pitcher, will guide the U.S. team.
Valenzuela, a six-time All-Star pitcher, will run the World squad.
The seven-inning exhibition between highly touted prospects will be
played July 11, two days before the major-league All-Star Game.
Among the former minor-leaguers who played in past Futures games are
Barry Zito, Alfonso Soriano, Miguel Cabrera, Lance Berkman and Carl
Crawford. Oakland pitcher Rich Harden started last year's game for the
World team.
