PHILADELPHIA -- Right-hander Vicente Padilla
came off the disabled list Tuesday to make his first start for the
Philadelphia Phillies since being sidelined with elbow tendinitis in
May.
Right-hander Cory Lidle, acquired in a
trade with Cincinnati on Monday, also was added to the roster.
Geoff Geary was sent to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre and
Paul Abbott was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.
A former All-Star, Padilla was 4-5 with a 4.07 ERA in 10 starts, before
going on the DL. Lidle was 7-10 with a 5.32 ERA in 24 starts for the
Reds. He is tied for second in the NL with three complete games, and he
led the Reds with 149 innings pitched.
Geary had a 7.12 ERA in 21 games with the Phillies. Abbott was 1-6 with
a 6.24 ERA in 10 starts for Philadelphia after being released by Tampa
Bay. The Phillies have 10 days to trade Abbott, send him outright to the
minor leagues or place him on waivers for the purpose of his
unconditional release.
The Phillies' rotation still is missing Kevin
Millwood, who was placed on the disabled list with an elbow
injury last week.
