Car accident rumors concern Rivera's friends, family

TAMPA, Fla. -- Mariano Rivera fielded calls Thursday from worried friends and family after a rumor spread that he had been in a serious car accident.

"I received several calls, from friends and family, asking what happened to me. But I'm fine, I haven't had any accident," Rivera said.

"I have no idea how the rumor got started, I only know they killed me."

Rivera thinks the rumor might have been stemmed from the car accident Yankees' special adviser Reggie Jackson was in Friday. Jackson's SUV was struck from behind by a car driven by Miguel Angel Rivera, identified in some reports only as M. Rivera.
