MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins placed
right-hander Antonio Alfonseca on the
15-day disabled list Friday with a stress fracture in his elbow and was
expected to be out at least two months.
Alfonseca, 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in six games, left Thursday night's 10-1
loss to the New York Mets after one inning with right elbow pain. An MRI
performed Friday confirmed the injury.
Right-hander Travis Smith was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque. The
32-year-old Smith was 2-0 with a 6.00 ERA in three starts.
