Floyd awaiting results after tests show abnormalities in kidneys
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets left fielder Cliff Floyd is awaiting results of kidney tests after abnormalities were found in his urine.
Floyd has a family history of kidney problems, which triggered concern among Mets doctors.
"Everyone needs to know I'm OK," Floyd said Thursday, one day after missing practice to have tests. "I'm still going out there and playing. No one needs to worry now. The tests were in response to small things."
The results of an ultrasound conducted by a nephrologist to gauge kidney function won't be known until Wednesday, Floyd said. Floyd's father had kidney failure and needed a transplant.
"Since I have a family history of kidney failure, these can be tests to save your life," Floyd said.
The 33-year-old outfielder said he felt fine and the testing was not triggered by discomfort. Doctors did not prescribe any medicine.
According to Newsday, Floyd said he was told his kidneys are operating at 48 percent efficiency. He also has high blood pressure and high cholesterol, the paper said.
