Texas sends down Dickey a day after he gives up six homers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers demoted right-hander R.A. Dickey to Triple-A Oklahoma on Friday less than 24 hours after the knuckleballer allowed six home runs to Detroit, tying the post-1900 major league record.

The Rangers also purchased the contract of right-hander Rick Bauer from Oklahoma and signed free agent infielder Erubiel Durazo to a minor league contract.

Dickey allowed seven runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 10-6 loss to Detroit on Thursday night. It was the sixth time a big league pitcher has given up six homers, the fourth time in the AL.

Bauer was 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA in four spring training appearances for the Rangers. He did not pitch for Oklahoma in its season opener on Thursday night.

Durazo signed a minor league deal with the Rangers on Feb. 21 and was released by Texas on March 27. He played for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic and appeared in nine spring training games for the Rangers, hitting .217 (5-for-23) with one RBI.
