CINCINNATI -- Dick Pole, Dusty Baker's bench coach with the Chicago Cubs
the last four seasons, was hired Tuesday as the Cincinnati Reds' pitching coach.
The 56-year-old was a pitching coach for the Cubs, the Giants, the
Angels, the Indians and the Expos before becoming a bench coach. He
replaces Vern Ruhle, who was sidelined much of last season because of
cancer and has been reassigned within the organization.
Pole's hiring completes manager Jerry Narron's staff. The Reds hired
Brook Jacoby as their hitting coach last week.
