LOS ANGELES -- Reliever Rudy Seanez, who
used to play for Los Angeles Dodgers, and
infielder Fernando Tatis, who enjoyed the
most memorable accomplishment of his career at Dodger Stadium, agreed
Tuesday to minor league contracts with the Dodgers.
Seanez would get a $700,000, one-year contract if added to the 40-man
roster and Tatis would get a $500,000, one-year deal.
Seanez, a 37-year-old right-hander, has a 30-23 record with a 4.21 ERA
in 429 career games with eight big-league teams including the Dodgers,
for whom he pitched in 1994-95. He appeared in 49 games last season with
Boston and San Diego, going 3-3 with a 4.92 ERA in 53 innings.
The 32-year-old Tatis became the first player to hit two grand slams in
the same inning on April 23, 1999, accomplishing the feat against
Dodgers right-hander Chan Ho Park in the third. Tatis played in 28 games
for the Baltimore Orioles last season, hitting .250 with two homers and
18 RBI.
Tatis had his best season in 1999 with the St. Louis Cardinals, hitting
.298 with 34 homers and 107 RBI in 149 games. He has a .260 average with
92 homers and 347 RBI in eight seasons with four big-league teams. He
didn't play professional baseball in 2004-05.
Both were invited to spring training as non-roster players.
