News
Phillies starter Jerome Williams looked to be on his way towards a victory, but a late Mets rally led to a 6-5 Phillies loss on Tuesday. Williams allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Williams (4-10, 6.13 ERA) got off to a bad start, as he allowed a two-run home run to Yoenis Cespedes in the first inning. He gave up another run in the second, but the Phillies were able to grab the lead with a four-run third inning.

Williams, however, got into more trouble in the sixth, when the Mets plated three runs to regain the lead, which they would not give up.

After three straight starts of allowing one earned run, Williams has given up a total of 12 earned runs over seven innings in his most recent two outings.

Dan Haren's struggles with the Cubs continued on Thursday. The right-hander did not fare well in his start against the Giants, allowing five runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four in the 9-1 Cubs' loss.

Haren (8-9, 3.90 ERA) was given an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, but he allowed the Giants to tie the game in the bottom half. The big inning came in the third, when the Giants tacked on four more, including a three-run home run by Marlon Byrd.

The 6 1/3 innings represents Haren's longest outing since joining the Cubs at the July 31 trade deadline. In five starts with the Cubs, Haren is 1-2 with a 6.33 ERA.

Twins starter Ervin Santana struggled and did not last long in his outing against the Rays on Tuesday. The right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits over just 2 2/3 innings. He was able to escape with a no-decision however, as the Twins held on for an 11-7 victory.

The Twins gave Santana a 3-0 lead before he even took the mound, but he allowed two runs in the second inning and three more in the third before being pulled from the game.

Santana has now gone six starts without a win. Over those six outings, he has given up at least four runs five times, giving him a 9.12 ERA over that stretch.

News
Angels starter Jered Weaver struggled in his outing against the Tigers on Tuesday. The veteran right-hander allowed six runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. He escaped with the win however, as the Angels were able to hang on for the 8-7 victory.

Weaver (6-9, 4.59 ERA) was staked to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but he gave all four of those runs back in the third inning. The Halos rallied back to grab another four-run lead over the next two innings, but Weaver served up a two-run shot to James McCann in the sixth before being pulled from the game.

This was Weaver's toughest start since coming back from a stint on the disabled list. In four outings now following his return, Weaver is  with a 3.91 ERA.
