News
General manager Jeff Luhnow said that Brad Peacock or Jerome Williams are the leading candidates to replace demoted Lucas Harrell in the starting rotation for the Astros, according to MLB.com.

Peacock has struggled in long relief with eight walks and a 6.00 in three appearances covering nine innings. Williams, who boasts far more experience as a starter, has sandwiched strong performances around one disastrous outing against his former Angels teammates.

News
It might fall under the category of nitpicking for arguably the most productive hitter in the game, but the dropoff in stolen bases for Mike Trout has become noticeable.

That number dropped from 49 in 2012 to 33 last season. He has just one in 15 games this year. One reason is the lack of opportunities. He has been on first base with second unoccupied just 10 times in 2014. Left-handers, who are generally tougher to run against, have been on the mound in six of those instances. The Angels led 11-1 in another.

Trout explained as well that he is receiving more attention. "Pitchers have been giving me a lot of different looks," he told the Orange County Register. "You don't want to run into outs, but we're going to stay aggressive for sure."

News
Braves closer Craig Kimbrel is dealing with shoulder soreness, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Kimbrel wasn't used in a save situation Monday even though he hadn't pitched in Sunday's game, and it turns out he's dealing with an injury that's thought to be minor. The team would likely turn to Jordan Walden if Kimbrel needs a break, though Walden was unavailable Monday after pitching the previous three days.

News
Braves pitcher Ervin Santana was masterful Monday, giving up one earned run on four hits and two walks in six innings while striking out 11, but he didn't factor into the decision in his team's 9-6 win over the Phillies.

Santana has been fantastic in his first two starts for Atlanta, striking out 17 and walking two in 14 innings while giving up just one. He'll look for win No. 2 in Saturday's game against the Mets.

Injuries
Knee - 15-day DL. Out until at least mid-August (Updated - 4/15/14)
News
Blue Jays infielder Maicer Izturis will ultimately require surgery to repair a completely torn LCL, the team announced Tuesday. The surgery will keep Izturis out at least four months, though he could require up to six months to recover, and is likely out for the remainder of the season according to MLB.com.

Izturis is still set to seek a second opinion before undergoing surgery, but it appears inevitable at this point. The 33-year-old was hitting .286/.324/.314 through the first 11 games of the season before suffering the injury Sunday.

News
Angels starting pitcher Garrett Richards pitched well enough to win for six innings Tuesday, but faltered late in a 10-9 extra innings loss to the A's.

Richards allowed three runs in his first six innings of work, and seemed well on his way to a win, up 5-3. Unfortunately, he ran into trouble in the seventh, allowing two more runs to come across, a sign of bad things to come for the bullpen.

Richards was charged with five earned runs on eight hits and a pair of walks in seven innings of work, while striking out five. He settled for a no-decision, as the game went into extras.

Richards had allowed just one run through his first two starts, so this was something of a disappointment. He will try to bounce back in his next start, carrying a 2-0 record and 2.84 ERA into Monday's scheduled start in Washington.

News
Mariners closer Fernando Rodney was charged with a blown save and a loss after giving up two unearned runs on two hits and one walk in his team's 3-2 loss to the Rangers Wednesday.

Rodney (0-1) didn't make things easy for himself, but he was able to induce a ground ball to the shortstop with men on first and second for what should have been the third out. However, a high throw from Brad Miller pulled the second baseman off the bag and all runners were safe. Rodney then let the tying run score on a wild pitch before the winning run came home on a single to left field.

The Mariners closer hasn't given up an earned run in 4 1/3 innings this season while striking out eight and walking three.
