Position Breakdown
1B - 149, OF - 11
News
Trumbo went 2-for-4 and scored a run in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Cincinnati.

Unfortunately for his owners, the 31-year-old has yet to be the slugger that made him the home run king in 2016. Trumbo hasn't gone deep since Opening Day, and has just six RBI through 13 games. In comparison, by this time last season, he owned a .373 batting average with five homers and 11 RBI. However, he may just be blooming a bit late year. Wednesday marked Trumbo's third consecutive two-hit performance, which has bumped his batting average 70-plus points over the small stretch.

Injuries
Oblique - Expected to be out until at least May 2 (Updated - 4/22/17)
News
Kendrick has been diagnosed with an oblique injury and will miss more time than initially anticipated, Corey Seidman of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Manager Pete Mackanin estimated Kendrick might be sidelined another 7-10 days with the injury. Oblique injuries often cause players to miss up to a month, so an early return in May is probably the best case scenario for Kendrick. Aaron Altherr and Daniel Nava are seeing time in left field while Kendrick is sidelined.

News
Amarista has only one hit (a double on Opening Day) in eight at-bats this season.

The super utility man was brought in over the offseason to act as a capable reserve player, but so far he's failed to capitalize on his limited opportunities. Amarista is better known for his glove than his bat, but unless he can show any semblance of life at the dish, he'll likely be relegated to merely serving as a defensive replacement for many of his appearances.

News
Aybar smacked his first homer of the season in Wednesday's 1-0 victory over the Diamondbacks.

The switch-hitting shortstop was one of the few San Diego bats to get to Arizona starter Zack Greinke, producing the only run the Padres could scratch out all evening. Despite the nice display, Aybar is in the midst of a terrible stretch at the plate, producing just a .567 OPS through the first 15 games. If he continues to scuffle at the plate, the veteran might begin ceding more starts to younger options as the Padres start to evaluate their options for the future.

News
Santana allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out batters over six innings during Thursday's loss to Cleveland.

Santana didn't factor into the decision, as he was the victim of a climbing pitch count and poor run support Thursday. He threw just 66 of 113 pitches for strikes, and the Twins scored only two runs in the game. Santana is still off to a sterling start with a 3-0 record, 0.64 ERA, 0.61 WHIP and 20 strikeouts through 28 innings. While it sure would be nice to see an uptick in strikeouts, it's tough to complain through his first four outings.

News
Bourjos entered Saturday's victory over the Astros as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and went 1-for-2 with a two-run single.

The veteran hit for Kevin Kiermaier in the sixth with the bases jammed and delivered, smacking a single to center that plated Shane Peterson and Tim Beckham to extend the Rays' lead to 6-3 at the time. Bourjos hasn't been able to generate much offense this season in his 20 at-bats, as his average stands at an even .200 and he has only one extra-base hit, a solo home run, to his name thus far.

Jered Weaver, #36

News
Weaver did not factor into Saturday's decision, but he tossed another quality start, holding the Marlins to two runs on four hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out three.

After getting hit hard in his first start of the 2017 season, Weaver has turned things around and tossed three-consecutive quality starts, lowering his ERA below four for the first time this year. The 34-year-old continues to get by with smoke and mirrors, stifling major league hitters while averaging 84 mph on his fastball. There is one concern regarding Weaver's early success, his inability to keep the ball in the yard (2.7 HR/9). The veteran has been relatively lucky that almost all of the homers he has surrendered have come with no men on base, but that luck is likely to run out sooner or later. Owners who have been benefiting from Weaver's solid start to the season need to be wary, as the other shoe could drop at any moment.

News
Mathis is out of Thursday's lineup against the Padres.

This will mark the fourth time over the last six games that Mathis hasn't started behind the plate, as he continues sharing time with Chris Iannetta at the spot. For the season, Mathis owns a dismal .161/.188/.290 line.

Romine is starting at shortstop and batting ninth in Sunday's game against the Twins,

Romine sat on Saturday but he's back in there Sunday. With Jose Iglesias and now JaCoby Jones on the DL, Romine should get fairly regular playing time at shortstop and in center field for the time being.
