Scherzer pitched very well in the start as he allowed just two runs on four hits over seven strong innings. He walked three and struck out nine in the start. He left with the Padres in the lead, however, only to see his offense score five times in the bottom of the 8th inning and win the game. Scherzer has a 3.64 ERA on the season.

    Doug Davis got his first victory in a month and the Arizona Diamondbacks matched their season-best four-game winning streak by beating the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Tuesday night. Davis, who had allowed just two earned runs in his previous three starts but left each with a no-decision, scattered nine hits, allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday. It was the left-hander's first victory since beating San Diego 8-0 on June 5. Davis (4-8) was 0-2 in five starts since then. Davis picked off two runners at first, while also walking three and striking out six.
