News
Orioles reliever Zach Britton has been nearly perfect on the mound this season. He is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA through five appearances, allowing just two hits and three walks in 8 1/3 innings.

Britton attributes his success to working hard in the offseason, which included finding a consistent arm slot while pitching out of the stretch.

Britton's velocity is also up this year. He's increased the velocity on his fastball from 91.4 mph in 2013 to 93.9 mph this season.

"I think it's (the increased velocity) the sum of everything," he said, per MASNsports.com. "A cleaner delivery with the help of (pitching coach) Dave (Wallace) and (bullpen coach) Dom (Chiti). Just been throwing out of the stretch. If I stay in the bullpen the whole year I'm sure we'll talk about getting back to the windup eventually.

"It was something they felt, just make it simple for me coming out of the pen. But I think, physically where I am at, adding the weighted balls, cleaning up my delivery, better arm slot. All that stuff equals better and more consistent velocity."

News
Orioles starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez dropped his third straight start to open the 2014 season during Sunday's 11-3 loss vs. Toronto. The right-handed hurler allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks, while striking out three in 5 1/3 innings.

Jimenez (0-3) gave Toronto an early lead as Colby Rasmus hit a solo home run two batters into the game. The Orioles tied the game in the bottom of the first and it remained tied until the Blue Jays plated two runs in the top of the fourth.

Jimenez gave up another solo home run to Brett Lawrie in the sixth inning and was pulled after allowing Ryan Goins to follow with a single. Goins would score two batters later, which was the final run charged to Jimenez.

Despite a 7.31 ERA through three starts, manager Buck Showalter is not concerned about Jimenez.

"If you look at his, kind of, history, he gets better as the year goes on," Showalter said, per MASNsports.com. "He's actually pitched competitively for us. He's real close to keeping us there. He had some challenges last year and came on real strong. You trust the person and the character. He's in good standing where that's concerned. He'll keep fighting. He'll work his way through it."

Jimenez's next scheduled start is for Saturday at Boston. Jimenez lost in his season debut against the Red Sox, allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks in six innings during an April 2 outing.
