Although Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman could be in line to start the season in the bullpen, manager Buck Showalter told reporters he'll make another start on Tuesday, per MLB.com. Gausman is tentatively scheduled to pitch five innings against the Rays. He has allowed two runs in four innings this spring.

If a game gets rained out from Friday until his next start, Gausman could be bumped Tuesday in favor of Ubaldo Jimenez, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Arencibia has been sidelined since Thursday with the injury. He was on the team's travel list for Sunday's road game and was thought to have a chance to return.

News
Orioles designated hitter Delmon Young is welcoming more at-bats and opportunities to play in the outfield this spring. On Wednesday, he cranked out three hits, including a home run against the Blue Jays.

"Delmon's a better outfielder than people give him credit for," manager Buck Showalter said, per MASN Sports. "He's running as good as he ever has. He came in here with that in mind, to remind us.

"I was looking at his grades the other day when he came out as a free agent. He's running like that again, he's throwing. He's an above-average thrower.

"Delmon is an option for us in the outfield. He's not a pure DH and that was one of the reasons why we wanted to bring him back. He's a little better out there than people think he is. It may not always look aesthetically pleasing, but tell me one time last year where you went, 'Wow, that really hurt.' He takes a lot of pride in it."

The Orioles and pitcher Chris Tillman are reportedly engaged in "continuous dialogue" for a long-term extension and have been for the past several weeks, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Tillman signed a one-year, $4.315 million deal in January to avoid arbitration and the discussions for a new deal are still considered preliminary, according to the report.

Tillman posted a 13-6 record in 2014 with a 3.34 ERA in 34 starts.

News
Orioles pitcher Bud Norris had another tough outing Friday, giving up three runs in four innings of work. But Norris, who has allowed 12 earned runs over 11 2/3 innings, isn't concerned just yet, reports MLB.com.

"Every outing I've given up a home run," said Norris, who has allowed five homers in four official spring starts. "But you are trying to work on things, trying to get comfortable out there. We had a great year last year and [now we're] just trying to get the ball rolling again. Different beast, obviously in the regular season and postseason."

Manager Buck Showalter noted his command has been off.

"Command has not been very good, as good as he's capable of," Showalter said. "He's an athletic guy, can throw it where he wants to most of the time. He hasn't been very consistent with that yet. He's crisp with most things, just not [with the] consistency of command."

Back, hamstring - Out until at least late March (Updated - 3/29/15)
News
Orioles outfielder David Lough won't start on Monday, as originally planned, and he may be headed for the disabled list.

Lough hasn't played in the last week, due to back spasms. A hamstring injury is now keeping him out of the lineup.

Manager Buck Showalter believes the two injuries are related and was doubtful that Lough would be back by Opening Day, per MASN Sports

"Still don't like where the hamstring is," Showalter said. "It's beginning to look like (the DL) more than it did. I was hoping we'd get him out there playing today or tomorrow and not have a problem."

News
Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph is the likely starter on Opening Day, which will not only be a first for him, but the first time he's ever broken camp with a Major League team.

Joseph locked up a roster spot, and a likely start in the opener, when it became clear Matt Wieters wouldn't be ready by the start of the season.

"Things happen in this game that nobody really expects and just like we've had to do in years' past the next guy has got to step up," Joseph said, per the Baltimore Sun. "Hopefully, we get Matt back really soon but, as long as he is out, I'm going to try and step up and do my best and try to continue what I did last year."

Joseph is hitting .333 this spring with five RBI.

News
When the Orioles open the season with a three-game series in Tampa Bay, manager Buck Showalter said Miguel Gonzalez will likely start one of the games, reports MLB.com.

“We’re leaning that way. It kind of slots him out the rest of the month where he should be," Showalter said. "Like I say, we’ve got a rare opportunity with playing in our division for as much as we do and the track record our starters have there in different venues against different teams and kind of take advantage of that.”

For his career, Gonzalez is 3-1 with a 2.64 ERA in five starts at Tropicana Field.

Showalter said earlier this spring that Wei-Yin Chen would probably pitch among those first three games as well as Chris Tillman, who's been widely speculated as the club’s Opening Day starter.
