News
Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman got blasted in his start against the Twins on Tuesday. Gausman lasted 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four, uncorked two wild pitches and hit a batter, as his ERA ballooned to 5.00.

Gausman (1-1) got hit early and often in this one, as he allowed a two-run home run to Miguel Sano as part of a three-run first inning. Another run came across in the third before Gausman allowed four more to score in the fourth.

This was the worst start of Gausman's young career, as the seven earned runs are a career-high and the 3 2/3 innings are a career-low.

The 24-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk following Tuesday's game, the team announced.

Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was robbed of not one but two home runs over the weekend against the White Sox.

On Saturday, Davis crushed a pitch down the right-field line that would have tied the game at 3 in the ninth inning, but White Sox right fielder Avisail Garcia was able to reach over the fence and bring back what would have been Davis' 19th home run.

Davis came close again to hitting his 19th home run Sunday, but this time it was J.B. Shuck in left field that robbed Davis of the celebration in the eighth inning with Baltimore ahead 8-1.

"Both plays were great plays," Davis said, per The Baltimore Sun. "I think the one (Saturday) was a little more hard to swallow because it would have tied the game. Today, obviously with the big lead, runner on third with less than two outs, a little bit easier to digest.

"You just tip your cap, man. They made two great plays. It didn't feel like the ball was really flying today or any of the days for that matter. They made two great plays."

The Orioles informed Bud Norris that he would be sent to the bullpen, per the Baltimore Sun.

Manager Buck Showalter confirmed that Kevin Gausman would start Tuesday's game, and Norris would be the right-handed long-relief man and spot starter.

"We certainly have confidence in him, but he’s capable of a lot better level than he’s pitching at right now," Showalter said of Norris.

"I'm going to go down there and pitch and when I get called on, I'm going to do the best job I can," Norris said

The home run was Hardy's only hit of the game, and his fifth longball of the season. It came as little consequence to the outcome of the game, as the Twins were already up 8-0 by that point.

Hardy had been hitless over his previous 14 at-bats prior to the home run, and is batting just .162 over his last 11 games.

Catcher Caleb Joseph had a big day at the plate for the Orioles on Sunday, driving in three to spark the team's 9-1 victory over the White Sox.

Joseph had just one hit on the day, but his sixth-inning double to deep right-center broke open the game for the Birds. He then added another RBI in the seventh inning with an RBI groundout.

Joseph's three RBIs were a season-high and equaled the amount of runs he drove in the entire month of June.
