News
Orioles starter Kevin Gausman threw a second consecutive gem on Saturday, as he limited the Tigers to two runs on four hits over seven sharp innings. Gausman struck out six and did not issue a walk in the 6-2 victory.

Gausman evened his record to 2-2 with the solid outing, throwing 68 of his 106 pitches for strikes. The only mistake he made came on a two-run home run to Nick Castellanos in the fifth inning. But the Orioles were already leading by five at that point, and Gausman lowered his ERA to 3.97.

The young right-hander struggled in his two starts sandwiching the All-Star break, allowing 11 earned runs over 9 2/3 innings. But in past two outings, he has an impressive 1.23 ERA.

News
On-again, off-again Orioles right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez was off again Sunday against visiting Detroit.

Jimenez suffered through his third awful performance in his last four outings. He surrendered six runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings with one walk and two strikeouts.

His start began badly on a three-run homer by J.D. Martinez in the first inning. He settled down for a bit, but four hits in the fifth, including a Jose Iglesias triple and Ian Kinsler single, plated three more runs.

Jimenez has yielded 22 earned runs over his last 18 2/3 innings pitched. His ERA has vaulted to a season-high 4.04. He has dropped four of his last five decisions.

Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen matched a career-low with 3 1/3 innings in Friday's 8-7 win over the Tigers. Chen allowed six runs on 10 hits. He did strike out six without walking a batter, but that was more of a footnote on what was a horrid start for Chen.

The left-hander allowed a run in each of the first two innings before giving up a two-run home run to J.D. Martinez in the third. In the fourth, Chen allowed back-to-back solo home runs to James McCann and Jefry Marte.

Chen was able to escape with a no-decision however, as the Orioles' bats were able to rally back for the victory. He made six starts in July and went 2-2 with a 4.03 ERA over that stretch.
