News
Twins outfielder Chris Parmelee, who is in the midst of a 3-for-28 slump, moved up to the second spot in the lineup Friday night against the Red Sox.

Manager Ron Gardenhire told MLB.com he went with Parmelee against right-hander Clay Buchholz because of his ability to work the count.

"He's not the prototype," Gardenhire said. "I'm not going to ask him to bunt or hit and run, but he can take pitches and is not afraid to see pitches. And if Dozier is on base, he can hook a ball through the hole, too."

Parmelee has a .204/.288/.320 slash line with three home runs and 10 RBI in 103 at-bats.

News
Twins starter Vance Worley, who allowed five runs his last time out, turned in a solid performance but did not manage to factor into the decision Friday night against the Red Sox.

Worley, who made his ninth start of the season, surrendered a run-scoring single to David Ortiz in the opening frame for his only damage of the night. He was charged with an unearned run and six hits over six innings of work. He walked three and struck out one in a 3-2 defeat in extras.

Worley saw his ERA improve from 7.15 to 6.20 after Friday's performance. He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at Atlanta. He went 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA in two starts against the Braves last season.

News
Twins starter Mike Pelfrey showed his inconsistencies Wednesday against the White Sox. Pelfrey, who had pitched so well in his previous two starts, couldn't even record an out in the fifth inning.

Pelfrey was victimized by Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo homers as he allowed five earned runs on eight hits and two walks over just four innings. He struck out two but needed 91 pitches to record just 12 outs. He took the loss to fall to 3-4 on the season with a 6.57 ERA.

The Minnesota starter had allowed just four runs over his previous two starts for a 1-0 record over 12 innings with eight strikeouts. He's allowed four homers on the year, but they have come in just two of his eight starts.

Pelfrey, who has largely been mediocre this year with a 1.77 WHIP and .339 batting average against, will remain in the rotation, according to manager Ron Gardenhire, MLB.com reports. He will make his next scheduled start Tuesday at Atlanta during an interleague series.

Twins starter Kevin Correia had a hard time keeping the ball in the park early on as he dropped his third decision of the year Tuesday night against the White Sox.

Correia (4-3) surrendered a pair of solo home runs to Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo, respectively, in the second inning. He was charged with four runs and nine hits over seven innings of work. He struck out two and walked one in a 4-2 defeat.

Correia has allowed seven runs over his last 12 1/3 innings of work. He is scheduled to make his next start Monday at Atlanta.

Twins infielder Jamey Carroll led off and recorded three hits on Wednesday against Chicago. It wasn't enough to avoid a 9-4 Minnesota loss.

Carroll doubled and drove in a run in the sixth inning with a single to center. He finished 3 for 5 with two runs and is batting .292.

The 39-year-old has provided a nice spark for Minnesota atop the order. He has hit in three straight games and four of five. Carroll has scored a run in five straight with eight total over that span.

Perkins gave up a hit and struck out a batter in a scoreless ninth inning. He threw 16 pitches and 14 went for strikes. His ERA is 3.29. Perkins is returning to the closer role for Minnesota and has gone 8 for 8 in save situations this season.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was hoping that Aaron Hicks could build off Monday's breakout game and get on a roll. But Hicks, who homered twice and made a spectacular catch that robbed a potential game-tying homer on Monday, went 0 for 3 Tuesday night against the White Sox.

Hicks is hitting .148 with three homers this season.

News
Having gone 23 for 63 (.365) over his previous 16 games, Justin Morneau's season batting average is up to .296 -- an encouraging sign after the Twins first baseman hit a combined .254 in his previous two seasons.

But he has only one home run during that stretch and only two all season. It's not like he was going Adam Dunn on the world in 2011 and 2012. His power numbers weren't where Fantasy owners were used to seeing them either. So even though he appears to be hitting better, we're all still left to wonder just what he's capable of doing.

My best guess is that, hot as he is, he's still not much better than the fringe mixed-leaguer we saw last year. He obviously has some power. We saw him hit 19 home runs last year. If he can combine those with his current batting average, yeah, he'll be pretty good. But seeing as he was a .270 hitter even during some of his pre-concussion years, I'm not sure assessing him at the peak of a hot streak is especially wise.
