    News
The Sports Xchange reports that Twins OF Delmon Young, riding a five-game hitting streak, has driven in seven runs in his last 10 games, and, perhaps most importantly, manager Ron Gardenhire said, is finally starting to listen. "He's listening," Gardenhire said of Young, who's been difficult to reach regarding baseball matters since he joined the Twins before the 2008 season. "He's actually trying different things right now, getting a little better balance in his stance rather than leaning so far forward."

After Anthony Swarzak started in a 4-3 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday night, Francisco Liriano moved up a day in the rotation to face the Yankees in the series finale Thursday. Nick Blackburn also will move up a day to open the three-game series against Chicago on Friday.

    News
CC Sabathia allowed one run on three hits in seven innings and the New York Yankees roughed up Minnesota starter Scott Baker in a 10-2 victory over the Twins on Tuesday night. Baker (6-7), who was 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his two previous starts against the Yankees, gave up five runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in three innings, his shortest outing of the season. The surging Yankees didn't hit Baker particularly hard, but they did hit him often enough to drive his pitch count through the Metrodome's roof early. Mark Teixeira had two broken-bat bloopers in the first two innings, the second scoring Brett Gardner to give New York a 3-0 lead. That score held through three innings, but Baker's pitch count already was at 75 when he took the mound to start the fourth inning. He never recorded an out in the frame. Reliever Brian Duensing didn't fare any better, and the Yankees broke the game open with a five-run sixth.
