Andruw Jones hit three early home runs for the Rangers on Wednesday night against the Angels in an 8-1 win. His first two homers came off Ervin Santana in the first and third innings. His third shot - a solo drive in the fifth - came against reliever Rich Thompson and gave the Rangers a 6-1 lead. With a chance to tie the major league record for home runs in a game, Jones popped out in the sixth against Kevin Jepsen and was struck out by Jason Bulger leading off the ninth. There have been 15 four-homer games in the majors. Carlos Delgado was the most recent player to do it, for Toronto in 2003.

    News
There will be a new champion crowned at the home run derby this year. Twins slugger Justin Morneau says he has declined an invitation to participate in the popular All-Star Game event, which will be held Monday in St. Louis. He says he wants to rest and would prefer to watch. Morneau won last year's competition at Yankee Stadium, but that was overshadowed by Josh Hamilton's record 28 homers in the first round. The Rangers' outfielder tired as the event dragged on and Morneau outlasted him 5-3 in the finals. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire says he is happy to hear Morneau will be sitting this one out. Hamilton isn't going to participate, either, at the request of his manager.
