From The Sports Xchange: 1B Nick Johnson will get a day off Wednesday, manager Manny Acta said Tuesday. The injury-prone first baseman has already played 79 games this season -- or more than twice as many as he has played the past two years combined. The Nationals are hoping keeping Johnson out of day games after night games will reduce the toll on his body.

    News
From The Sports Xchange: OF Adam Dunn, whose name has come up in several trade rumors this month, is not on the trading block, according to acting general manager Mike Rizzo's comments during an ESPN Radio interview Tuesday. Dunn has been linked in rumors to the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets, two teams that need a big bat and could support Dunn's $12 million salary for 2010. But Rizzo said, "We are not trading Adam Dunn. That's as definitive as I can be."

From The Sports Xchange: 2B Ronnie Belliard started for just the fifth time since the beginning of June and the second time in as many days after going 2-for-3 in a win over the Braves on Sunday. Belliard is hitting just .185 this year but could see more starts this month if the Nationals are trying to shop him to trade partners. "I think we need to get him going. If we do get him going, we're going to be a better ballclub," manager Manny Acta said.

Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann, like many pitchers, couldn't handle the thin air of Colorado during his Tuesday start against the Rockies. Zimmermann fell behind 1-0 after the first before Washington staked him a 4-1 lead. Zimmermann pitched a scoreless second and third before he lost control in the fourth. Nine batters came to the plate as Colorado scored three times to tie the game. Zimmerman allowed four hits and one walk in the inning. He was pulled after that. Zimmerman allowed seven hits and four runs (two earned), while walking four and striking out three.

    News
Julian Tavarez (3-7) issued consecutive one-out walks to Carlos Gonzalez and pinch-hitter Seth Smith in the eighth Tuesday. Joe Beimel relieved and induced a comebacker from pinch-hitter Ryan Spilborghs but he missed shortstop Cristian Guzman going for the force at second, throwing past the bag to second baseman Willie Harris, who was on the edge of the infield. "I messed up and threw it to the wrong guy," Beimel said. "I did everything right up until that point. I got the ball I wanted, anticipated the grounder, got it -- and just blew it. There's no other way to describe it." Barmes followed with the tie-breaking sacrifice fly. "I was thankful in that situation to get a pitch I could put in the outfield," Barmes said. "That's really all I was trying to do. It worked out."
