Braves' Matt Wisler torched for seven runs in blowout Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Braves starter Matt Wisler had a rather forgettable outing against the Nationals on Thursday. The rookie right-hander lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks. Wisler needed 48 pitches (27 strikes) to record his five outs, en route to the 15-1 blowout loss.

Wisler (5-6, 5.97 ERA) has really struggled since the calendar turned to August. Over his last seven starts, he has allowed 32 earned runs over 31 1/3 innings of work, leading to a gaudy 9.20 ERA. He also owns a 18:20 K:BB ratio over that stretch.

Braves P Manny Banuelos gets another shot at starting Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The pounding Braves starter Manny Banuelos absorbed in his first outing since returning from an elbow injury has not prevented Fredi Gonzalez from keeping him in the rotation for now.

Gonzalez confirmed that Banuelos will start Sunday in Washington, but will be limited to about 70-75 pitches, per MLB.com.

Banuelos performed well during a three-week stint in July before going down. But he allowed three runs on six hits in just 2 2/3 innings Tuesday against Miami.

Struggles for Braves' Williams Perez continue in loss Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Braves starter Williams Perez had a rough outing against the Marlins on Wednesday. The young right-hander allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits over five innings. He walked one and did not strike anyone out, en route to the 7-3 loss.

Perez (4-6, 5.65 ERA) allowed two runs in the second inning, but the Braves rallied back with three in the third to give Perez a lead. He gave that lead right back however, as the Marlins scored one in the fourth and three more in the fifth, including a two-run home run by Marcell Ozuna.

Perez has had some difficulties lately. He hasn't won a start since June 20 and has lost six of his last seven starts. He has given up four earned runs or more in four consecutive outings.

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com

Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation near his rib area, reports the team's radio network.

With Foltynewicz on the DL, the team will turn to Williams Perez to start Wednesday's game against Miami. Perez went 4-5 with a 5.56 ERA in 14 starts earlier this season.
