Braves' Shelby Miller gives up 10 singles, takes loss Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Braves pitcher Shelby Miller endured a rather peculiar start on Thursday against the Phillies. The right-hander allowed four runs on 11 hits over six innings. He walked one and struck four, but was stuck with the loss in the 4-1 final.

Of the 11 hits--which tied a season-high--all but one went for singles. Domoninc Brown launched a solo home run in the sixth inning for the only extra-base hit against Miller.

But the Phillies scored two in the fourth, and one each in the fifth and sixth innings, en route to the victory.

Miller went 0-4 with a 3.24 ERA in five starts this month.

Braves recall a trio of relievers from Triple-A on Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Following the blockbuster three-team deal finalized earlier on Thursday, the Braves made a handful of roster moves. The team has called up right-handers Jake Brigham and Ryan Kelly , and left-hander Matt Marksberry from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Brigham appeared in five games for the Braves earlier this season, posting a 5.59 ERA in 9 2/3 innings of relief.

Kelly was also up with the big club earlier in the year. He allowed two earned runs over 2 2/3 relief innings.

Marksberry, who has never tasted the Major Leagues has made 33 relief appearances between Class A Carolina and Triple-A this year. He is 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA over his 46 combined innings.

Braves land gems Hector Olivera, Paco Rodriguez from Dodgers
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The Braves have sent starting pitchers Alex Wood and Bronson Arroyo, as well as closer Jim Johnson to the Dodgers in a three-way trade that brought several prospects.

Atlanta gets infielder Hector Olivera, left-hander Paco Rodriguez and right-hander Zachary Bird from Los Angeles, as well as the Marlins' competitive-balance draft pick in 2016.

The prizes in the trade are Olivera and Rodriguez. The former is batting .348 at Triple-A Olahoma City this season while the latter pitched in 18 games for the Dodgers earlier this year and recorded a 2.61 ERA.

Bird has struggled throughout his minor league career, but does have 95 strikeouts in 89 1/3 innings this year for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga.

The Dodgers sent several prospects to both teams. First baseman Hector Olivera, lefty Paco Rodriguez and starting pitcher Zachary Bird head to Atlanta while pitchers Victor Araujo and Angel Guzman go to Miami.
