Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Receives offseason stem cell injection
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Pomeranz received a stem cell injection in his pitching elbow in October, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

The left-hander pitched through elbow soreness in the latter portion of the 2016 season, and while his condition didn't require surgery, he did require an injection to alleviate the issue. Red Sox President Dave Dombrowski recently said that Pomeranz will likely slot in towards the back of the rotation this season, which suggests that the elbow won't be an issue once pitchers and catchers report.

Red Sox's Steven Wright: Still rehabbing right shoulder
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wright (shoulder) is still rehabbing his right shoulder but feels he'll be ready to go for spring training, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports.

Bursitis and rotator cuff irritation have plagued the 32-year-old knuckleballer since he was injured while pinch running Aug. 7 against the Dodgers. Before the injury, he was 13-6 with a 3.33 ERA. He appears destined for a spot at the back end of Boston's rotation in 2017.

Red Sox's Cesar Cabral: Inks minor league deal in Boston
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cabral signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday, Baseball America reports.

The southpaw, who will be 28 in February, has not had much of an opportunity to show off his stuff in the big leagues, as he's pitched just two innings in the majors over the past three seasons, including none last season. He allowed nine earned runs over just 8.1 innings at Triple-A Norfolk last season before the Orioles released him. If he even makes the team, he isn't likely to serve as anything more than organizational depth next season.

Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Expects to be good to go by spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez (knee) is expected to be 100 percent by the time spring training comes around, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

The left-hander injured his knee during a winter league game, although manager John Farrell doesn't seem too concerned about the ailment in the long run. There is a chance that Rodriguez begins the season in the minor leagues due to neither Drew Pomeranz or Steven Wright having minor league options remaining. However, the Red Sox still see the 23-year-old as a big part of their future, meaning he'll likely spend a considerable amount of time in the big leagues in 2017 regardless of where he starts the campaign.

Red Sox's Kyle Kendrick: Joins Red Sox as NRI
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kendrick signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, ESPN.com reports.

Kendrick was knocked around to the tune of a 6.32 ERA in 27 starts for the Rockies in 2015 and then failed to crack the Angels' roster at any point last year (4.72 ERA, 1.29 WHIP at Triple-A Salt Lake). Chances are, Kendrick will once again serve as depth in the minors. Perhaps he will get a look with the big club eventually, but it would probably be as a long reliever and only if the bullpen is severely taxed and the Red Sox need someone to eat innings.
