Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Lost 20 pounds during offseason
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Ryu (shoulder), who resumed throwing from a mound in mid-January, has reportedly lost 20 pounds this offseason, according to J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News.

Ryu had surgery in May to repair a torn labrum in his pitching shoulder, and the Dodgers haven't offered a timetable for his return. When asked about his recovery after his first mound session in January, Ryu said that he hopes to be ready for Opening Day. Nevertheless, the Dodgers' increased rotation depth affords them extra time if Ryu needs to begin the season on the disabled list and progress through the final stages of his recovery beyond the first week of April. If Ryu is healthy and ready to pitch on Day 1, Alex Wood may end up in the bullpen, or at Triple-A to begin the season, but it would hardly be surprising to see the Dodgers take a cautious approach with Ryu's recovery.

Dodgers' Alex Guerrero: Might not make 25-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Guerrero might not make the 25-man roster when the 2016 season rolls around, Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Guerrero briefly appeared to be a breakout star in the early stages of 2015, but a .206/.242/.286 second-half slash line and a lack of natural position left him without a regular role by the end of the season. Now, the Dodgers' build-up of depth in the corners could leave him without a roster spot. The 29-year-old is still owed $10 million over the next two years, but certain clauses in his contract make things much more complicated. He can declare free agency if he is left off the 25-man roster, and he can also end his deal after the season if he is traded away from Los Angeles, so moving him would be very tricky. The power he showed in 2016 should give him a role wherever he ends up, but there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding him right now.

Dodgers' Jordan Schafer: Could transition to hybrid role
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Schafer, a non-roster invitee to Dodgers camp for spring training, could take on a hybrid role as a defense-first center fielder and a left-handed reliever, MLB.com reports.

The Dodgers reportedly plan to emphasize pitching with Schafer, who has not pitched in a competitive environment since high school. Schafer, now 29, was the Twins' Opening Day center fielder in 2015, but struggled mightily before a knee strain effectively ended his time with the organization. He has hit just .228/.308/.307 in parts of six major league seasons.

Dodgers' Jacob Rhame: Receives non-roster invitation to 2016 Dodgers' spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rhame will join the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training as a non-roster invitee.

The 22-year-old's numbers have been impressive at the minor league level over the past three seasons as he's posted a 2.63 ERA over 143.2 innings of work along with a 11.3 K/9 innings. However, he's yet to pitch in the majors so he's still a far way off from securing a roster spot with the Dodgers.

Dodgers' Caleb Dirks: Receives non-roster invitation to Dodgers' spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Dirks will join the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training as a non-roster invitee.

Although Dirks received an invitation to spring training, he's still a long shot to make the Dodgers' roster. He's posted solid numbers at the minor league level with an impressive 1.42 ERA over 82.1 innings of work along with 101 strikeouts but has yet to face major league competition.
