Brewers' Jonathan Villar: Flashes power again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Villar blasted a two-run homer for his only hit of the night in Wednesday's loss to Texas.

He's on another power burst, having ripped three in the last three games to bring his season total to 19 -- that's nine more than Villar hit in the prior three seasons put together. Those homers look awfully nice next to the infielder's 60 steals as he continues rounding out one of this season's most impressive (and unexpected) stat lines.

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Five ineffective frames in no-decision
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Anderson gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits over five innings in Texas on Wednesday. He struck out two and walked two while avoiding the decision.

Despite his travails, Anderson actually held a 5-4 lead when he left the game, but the Brewers' bullpen ended up blowing it. Up until this game, he'd been working on a surprisingly excellent September -- a 1.21 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 22.1 innings spanning four starts -- and actually posted decent numbers on the whole from late July through Wednesday, his final start of the season. Even so, Anderson's modest strikeout totals, middling control and proneness to the long ball are not good attributes in a fantasy starter. He'll very likely go undrafted in most leagues next year.

Brewers' Ryan Braun: Back in action Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Braun (wrist) is back in Wednesday's lineup, hitting third and manning left field against the Rangers.

He sat out Tuesday with a sore wrist, but it was a minor ailment and he's back in the three hole against Cole Hamels and the Rangers. Braun has had his best offensive season since 2012 (135 wRC+), and is looking like the type of player who could continue to age quite well, although it's fair to wonder how many seasons with double-digit stolen bases the 32-year-old outfielder has left.

Brewers' Chris Carter: Mashes 39th homer against Rangers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carter hit his 39th homer, a two-run shot, in a 2-for-3 game with two walks Tuesday against the Rangers.

Carter now has nine home runs in September as he continues to build on a career high in homers. His 39 leads the National League and trails only Edwin Encarnacion (42) among all major leaguers. Carter's .321 OBP, however, is the worst among any major league first baseman with 25 home runs -- he's as one-dimensional as it gets.

Brewers' Jimmy Nelson: Takes 16th loss against Gomez
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Nelson (8-16) allowed five runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts over 5.1 innings in a loss Tuesday against Texas.

Nelson's second half tailspin continues. He is now 2-9 with a 6.75 ERA over 65.1 innings in 13 starts dating back to July 22. Nelson's 83:50 K:BB in that span isn't pretty, but the real problem has been the home run ball. He has served up 13 home runs in his 13-start cold streak; he allowed just 12 in his first 19 starts, in which he posted a sharp 3.39 ERA.
