Mike Fiers is the greatest
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Amazing or terrible -- that's all we've known Mike Fiers to be during his frequently interrupted big-league career. He tallied another in the amazing column Tuesday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits in seven crisp innings.

You know that when he's on, he throws strikes and eats innings, and you know all about his 14 strikeouts against the Cubs last time out. But you may not know that in three starts since returning from the minors, he's allowed just eight hits in 21 innings.

He's dominated in every facet, just like he did over 17 starts at Triple-A Nashville, where in one of the most hitter-friendly leagues in all the minors, he compiled a 2.55 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

He's already explained away his past failures by saying he's learned to attack hitters since then, and as dominant as he's been, especially in light of his history, you really don't have much reason to doubt him. And few Fantasy owners do. His ownership rate is now at 75 percent, up from 7 percent two weeks ago.

At some point in the next couple weeks, the Brewers will welcome Matt Garza back to the starting rotation, but I'm assuming, as long as the terrible version doesn't show up between now and then, Fiers will retain his spot even if it means bumping Jimmy Nelson to the bullpen.

Jimmy Nelson falls apart in middle innings in loss to Toronto
by Marty Gitlin |

A strong run of five straight quality starts ended with a thud Wednesday against the Blue Jays for Brewers rookie Jimmy Nelson.

Nelson collapsed after four strong innings to take his fourth loss in six decisions. He gave up four runs on five hits in the fifth and sixth before his removal. Among them were run-scoring doubles by Munenori Kawasaki and Melky Cabrera.

His next start is set for Monday at San Diego.

Brewers left fielder Khris Davis is set to sit Wednesday against Toronto. Gerardo Parra is playing the position instead.

Davis has been on a mini-roll with seven hits in his last 21 at-bats.

Mike Fiers turns in another strong start
by Chris Cwik |

Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers turned in another quality outing Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Fiers allowed one run on two hits over seven innings. He struck out six and issued one walk during the outing. The Blue Jays were able to scratch across their only run in the second inning. Fiers gave up a single and double to the first two batters he faced during the inning. The leadoff man came around to score on a groundout. That was the only damage done against Fiers for the rest of the game. He tossed five perfect innings before being pulled after the seventh.

With the win, Fiers improved to 3-1. He'll take on the Pirates in his next start.

Scooter Gennett runs at full speed Tuesday
by R.J. White |

Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett was encouraged after running full speed in a baserunning session Tuesday for the first time in weeks, reports.

Gennett has been playing with a sore right quad since the All-Star break but has managed to hit .353/.361/.441 in 34 August at-bats.
