Slumping Robinson Cano doesn't regret move to Mariners
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Slumping Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano isn't worried about his sluggish first two months of the season.

"This is not a thing that’s going to bring me down,” Cano said, per the Journal News. “You guys know me. I always stay positive. Every at-bat is a different one. I’m not going to over-think it."

Cano is hitting just .246, but he's sure he'll turn things around.

"There’s a lot of balls that I’ve been hitting hard, but just right at guys. There’s things you can’t control in this game. You just can hit the ball, but you can’t control it. But I’ve been in a situation like this before, and we’ve got a lot of games left in the season."

With the Yankees in town, Cano had the opportunity to reflect on his former team, and his decision to leave it. But, like his slump, he's not letting the past bring him down.

"That’s something that I don’t really care about,” Cano said. “I’m just here. I’m here to help this team to win, and not just focus on somebody else. … I would never regret my decision."

Yankees' Joe Girardi: Mark Teixeira is 'a really good player'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

When an opponent faces Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez, most of the time Seattle's ace has the upper hand. However, one player who has a very good track record against of the best pitchers in baseball is Yankees veteran first baseman Mark Teixeira.

Teixeira is batting .303 (20 for 66) with four doubles, six home runs, 13 RBI, nine walks and 16 strikeouts in his career against Hernandez, which included a grand slam during a 7-2 win Monday at Seattle.

“Felix is really good,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said, per The Journal News. “But so is Mark. I mean, Mark is a really good player.”

Teixeira is batting just .241 through 49 games, but he has already parked 15 home runs and is slugging .566. He also has a .358 on-base percentage.

In his case, Teixeira is having a resurgent season after a few injury plagued campaigns.

“I’m just very thankful,” Teixeira said. “I’m very thankful for the health and I just hope that continues. The first two months have been so far, so good. I want to continue it.”
