Yankees' Mark Teixeira goes yard twice in loss Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira went 3 for 4 with a pair of solo home runs on Thursday, but it wasn't enough to outlast the Rangers who won the game 7-6.

Teixeira took Yovani Gallardo deep in the first inning, and he added a second blast in the seventh to break a 5-5 tie. The two homers give Teixeria 26 on the year, the most he has hit since 2011 when he hit 39.

Yankees' CC Sabathia gives up three home runs in no-decision
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Yankees starter CC Sabathia struggled in his outing against the Rangers on Thursday. The big left-hander allowed five runs on nine hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out three, needing 80 pitches to get through five. He was left with a no-decision however, as he left the game with the score tied 5-5. The Rangers would win the game 7-6.

Sabathia was bitten by the longball in this one, as all five runs he allowed came on homers. Josh Hamilton's was the biggest blow, a three run shot in the very first inning. Shin-Soo Choo followed with a solo blast in the second, and then Ryan Rua knocked an inside-the-park home run in the fourth.

Sabathia has had a rough go of it so far in 2015. Over his last seven starts, the veteran is 1-1 with a 6.09 ERA. He has allowed nine home runs over that stretch as well.

Yankees promote two relievers, send down starter
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

In a swap of pitchers, the Yankees have promoted Bryan Mitchell and Nick Goody from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre and sent down Caleb Cotham, per MLB.com.

Mitchell pitched in six games for the Yankees in June and July, compiling a 2.89 ERA and fanning nine in 9 1/3 innings. Goody, who has yet to pitch in the big leagues, has been tearing it up in the minors. He has struck out 70 in 48 1/3 innings and owns a 1.68 ERA.

Cotham earned a spot start for the Yankees on Wednesday and performed well before his removal in the second inning. He gave up two hits and fanned four.

Yankees trade two prospects to Mariners for OF Dustin Ackley
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The Mariners have finally given up on left fielder Dustin Ackley, whom they have traded to the Yankees for outfield prospect Ramon Flores for right-handed reliever Jose Ramirez, per CBSSports Baseball Insider Jon Heyman

Ackley has been a disappointment since his arrival in the big leagues, but his left-handed power bat could produce considering the short right-field porch at Yankee Stadium. He owns a poor .215/.270/.306 slash line this season and has just two hits in his last 15 at-bats.

Ramirez, who has pitched in 11 games for the Yankees over the past two seaons, boasts a 2.90 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 49 innings this year at Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre.

Flores has compiled a .286/.377/.417 slash line for the same team in 2015.
