Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Takes ninth loss against Angels
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Mengden (2-9) allowed eight runs on nine hits and a walk over three innings in a loss Tuesday to the Angels.

Mengden has now allowed six or more runs four times in 14 starts. He has been nasty at times, with 71 strikeouts in 72 innings, but he has walked 33 batters (4.1 BB/9) and simply hasn't been able to overcome the constant flow of baserunners he has allowed. His ERA climbed all the way to 6.50 as a result of the blowup.

Athletics' Renato Nunez: Out of lineup with back soreness
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Nunez is out of the lineup Tuesday with back soreness but may be available off the bench, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

The 22-year-old hasn't played since Saturday, but it sounds like he's available in a pinch Tuesday and has a chance to return to the lineup in the coming days. Nunez has struggled against major league pitching since his Sept. 12 callup, recording two hits (both singles) in 15 at-bats. He managed just a .228 average and .278 OBP during his time with Triple-A Nashville (128 games) and those numbers largely overshadowed his contributions in the power department.

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Gives up one run over seven innings in no-decision
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Manaea allowed one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Monday against the Angels.

Manaea had a 4.73 ERA and 1.31 WHIP on Aug. 17, but he is closing the season on a high note. In his past five starts, he hasn't allowed more than one earned run in any single game, and he owns a 0.64 ERA and 0.78 WHIP with a 27:8 K:BB in 28.1 innings. Perhaps most importantly, Manaea had allowed 18 home runs in his first 19 appearances; in his five outings since, he has surrendered just a pair of homers.

Athletics' Sonny Gray: To pitch one or two innings Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gray (forearm) will likely be limited to one or two innings in his Wednesday start against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

This will be Gray's first start back since being placed on the DL on Aug. 7 with a right forearm strain. As opposed to shutting him down, the A's are looking to get the young righty some live action in the final week. It has been a season to forget for the 26-year-old, who currently holds an ugly 5.74 ERA over 116 innings.

Athletics' Ryon Healy: Homers in three-hit game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Healy went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Rangers.

Healy chased Colby Lewis from the game in the second inning with his 12th home run of the year. He also added a pair of singles to his stat line, snapping a 1-for-16 slide at the plate. Six of the 24-year-old rookie's home runs have come during September, helping raise his slash line to a robust .303/.336/.519 in 66 games this year.
