Padres' Scott Snodgress: Signs minor-league deal
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Snodgress signed a minor league deal with the Padres on Friday that does not include an invite to spring training, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports.

Snodgress posted a 5.19 ERA in 8.2 innings pitched at the Double-A level and an 11.16 ERA in 25.0 innings pitched at the Triple-A level in 2015. He has been fairly mediocre in his minor league career and struggled mightily in his brief callup with the White Sox in 2014. The 26-year-old will have to improve drastically if he wants a shot at making the big league team in 2016.

Padres' Wil Myers: Expected to stick at first base in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The San Diego Padres plan to use Wil Myers at first base full-time in 2016.

Myers played 22 games at first base and 42 in the outfield in an injury-shortened 2015 season. But after trading Yonder Alonso to the A's, there's no one substantially in the way of Myers at first base this year. The bigger concern is whether he's fully recovered from the wrist injuries that marred last year's season.

Padres' Skip Schumaker: Signs minor league contract with Padres
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The San Diego Padres signed Skip Schumaker to a minor league contract Monday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

Schumaker spent last season serving in a situational role, which translated to a .242/.306/.336 slash line, one homer, and two stolen bases in 244 at-bats across 131 games. After turning 36 years old last week, he's clearly in the twilight of his career, but the opportunity afforded by the Padres could result in an outfield depth role at the major league level at some point in 2016.

Padres' Yangervis Solarte: Remains on track to start 2016 at third
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yangervis Solarte is in line to enter the 2016 season as the San Diego Padres ' everyday third basemen, Corey Brock of reports.

After a 2015 season where he made 85 starts at the position, it looks like the hot corner is where the 28-year-old will end up entering 2016. The Venezuela native also made 25 starts at first base and 14 starts at second last year, but after playing over half the year at third and posting a solid .967 fielding percentage, he will likely remain there. Cory Spangenberg, another third base option, is on tap to start the season at second given his 67 starts at the position for the Padres last year. Another potential option is Brett Wallace, but his meager five starts at third last season will likely keep him as a reserve for third base, not the starter.

Padres' Trey McNutt: Signs minor league deal with Padres
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Trey McNutt has signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres , Baseball America reports.

A former top prospect, the 26-year-old no longer has the glimmer he once did. He'll look for a fresh start with a new organization in the Padres, but spent most of the 2015 campaign on the disabled list following shoulder surgery in 2014.
