Giants' Joe Panik: Collects hit in spring debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Panik batted second and went 1-for-2 with a run scored in his spring training debut Friday.

Panik is coming off of a down year, slashing .239/.315/.379 in an injury-shortened season. He did hit 10 homers and maintained an isolated power rating (.140) near what he posted in 2015. He got off to a cold start, and when he began heating up with the weather, he was struck in the head with a fastball and had to go on the disabled list with a concussion in June. Panik maintained his high contact rate all season (90 percent), but his line drive percentage dipped and his ground ball and fly ball rates both increased, which is the recipe for a lowered batting average. He enters 2017 healthy and will look to return to his consistent hitting ways. He won't be on fantasy radars outside of deeper formats, but he is a player that could help with batting average and runs scored if he can return to form.

Giants' Brandon Crawford: Goes hitless in spring debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Crawford batted leadoff and went 0-for-2 in his spring training debut against the Reds on Friday.

The lineup order should be disregarded as Crawford won't be batting leadoff come Opening Day. The 29-year-old saw his power numbers dip back to regular levels in 2016 after exploding for 21 homers the year prior. While the homers regressed, Crawford actually improved his batting average (.275) and on-base percentage (.342) while maintaining the 84 RBI high watermark he set in 2016. If he can maintain those levels, he will have value as a shortstop despite not hitting for plus power or stealing a ton of bases.

Giants' Brandon Belt: Collects hit in first spring game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Belt started and went 1-for-2 in his Cactus League debut Friday.

The extremely patient Belt is looking to repeat last year's career-best .394 on-base percentage and .868 OPS. While his power never developed to the 25-homer level many pegged him for as a prospect, he has turned into a consistent option at first base and should finish with solid counting stats batting in the heart of the Giants' order. Leagues that use on-base percentage should value Belt higher than standard formats, but he will still hold value in other formats given how shallow the first base position is this year.

Giants' Hunter Pence: Starts, doubles, puts injury concerns behind
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Pence (side) starter Friday's Cactus League opener and went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Pence was dealing with a minor intercostal strain heading into spring training and made a point to prove he is healthy. After the game he said, "I have every intention of being ready to play every game of the season, so getting out there Game 1 is important to me." Fantasy owners should still have concerns regarding the 33-year-old outfielder after he was limited to 158 total games over the past two seasons. The recent injuries should provide a bit of a discount for a batter who has shown that he can still produce when healthy.

Giants' Eduardo Nunez: Dealing with shoulder tightness
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Nunez is hampered by shoulder tightness and starting at DH in Saturday's Cactus League game, Andrew Baggarly of The Mercury News reports.

Aaron Hill will get the start at third base in his place, but the ailment doesn't seem to be concerning. Nunez hit .269/.327/.418 for San Francisco after being acquired in a trade with Minnesota last season and is expected to begin 2017 as the everyday third baseman. Consider him day-to-day.
