Rays' Chase Whitley: Sharp in second rehab appearance Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Whitley (elbow) turned in a second straight strong rehab outing Sunday for High-A Charlotte, allowing a hit and a walk over two scoreless innings while also recording a strikeout.

The 26-year-old fired 16 of 24 pitches for strikes against Brevard County, his second encouraging performances in as many trips to the mound. Whitley has yet to be scored on over three innings over his first pair of rehab outings, and has surrendered just two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Gives up game-winning homer Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ramirez (7-8) gave up an earned run on three hits over 1.1 innings in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the A's.

The veteran reliever was touched up by Billy Butler with one out in the home half of the eighth for a 399-foot solo shot, which turned out to be the winning run. Ramirez has now given up nine round-trippers over 60 innings this season, although he'd last surrendered a homer on June 20, a stretch of nine appearances. The earned run was also the first given up by the 26-year-old in seven July appearances.

Rays' Logan Morrison: Feeling better and could return Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Morrison (wrist) is reportedly "feeling better" and could find himself back in the lineup on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Although there had been speculation he might make it back in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the A's, manager Kevin Cash opted to leverage Monday's off day as a way to buy Morrison two extra days of rest. The veteran first baseman looks likely to return for the first of a two-game set against the Dodgers on Tuesday barring any unforeseen setbacks.

Rays' Alex Cobb: Scheduled for bullpen session Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cobb (elbow) will throw another bullpen session Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The session will serve as a litmus test of sorts for Cobb, with a determination on whether he's ready to return to pitching in minor-league games expected soon thereafter. The 28-year-old was temporarily taken off any rehab appearances after a pair of rough outings, and has instead been working in bullpen sessions with the goal of building up his stamina and improving his mechanics.

Rays' Blake Snell: Quality start versus Athletics
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Snell allowed just two runs with four strikeouts and two walks across 6.2 innings in Sunday's start versus the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision.

The rookie got off to a bumpy start by allowing two runs on four hits with just one out in the first inning, but he settled down and allowed just five baserunners over the next six frames. Snell has now delievered three consecutive quality starts, yielding just four runs in 18.2 innings in that span, and he has lowered his season ERA to 3.06 after an inauspicious start. He is showcasing the skills that made him a highly-regarded prospect heading into the year and will have the opportunity to build on his recent success next Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
