Rangers' Joey Gallo: To work at first base in offseason
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Gallo will play first base for the first half of winter ball in Venezuela this offseason, the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports.

It's unclear where Carlos Gomez and Ian Desmond will sign this offseason, but Shin-Soo Choo, Nomar Mazara and Adrian Beltre will all be back in Texas, so Gallo would have a much better shot of seeing regular at-bats at first base than in the corner outfield spots or third base. However, regardless of how competent he is at any number of positions, the only thing that really matters for Gallo is that he cuts down on his strikeouts in 2017. If he does that, he has enough power in his bat that the Rangers will gladly find a place for him to play every day.

Rangers' Jonathan Lucroy: Will have option picked up
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

GM Jon Daniels said Tuesday that the Rangers will pick up the team option on Lucroy's contract for the 2017 season, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports.

Tuesday's announcement comes as no surprise, given that he posted an .884 OPS after being acquired by the Rangers and will come at a major bargain in 2017 at $5.25 million. Lucroy will be the Rangers' primary catcher next year and one of the top backstop options in fantasy leagues.

Rangers' Carlos Beltran: Will continue playing next season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Beltran said Tuesday that he has no plans to retire and will play in 2017, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports.

Beltran will turn 40 years old soon after the 2017 season kicks off, so it would not have come as a major surprise if he decided to hang up the cleats this offseason. However, he posted an .850 OPS over 151 games in 2016, leaving no doubt that he still has the skills to compete -- and do so at a high level -- against MLB pitching. Beltran will be a free agent, so it remains to be seen which uniform he will wear next year.

Rangers' Cole Hamels: On track to start Game 4
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Hamels is expected to start Monday if the Rangers are able to force Game 4 of the ALDS, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The Rangers are down 0-2 and will be facing elimination at 7:30 ET on Sunday, but if they are able to extend the series, it sounds like Hamels will take the hill once again. The lefty didn't fare so well in Game 1 of the series, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out just one Toronto batter in the 82-pitch effort. The Blue Jays are generally pretty unforgiving against southpaws, launching 53 homers and posting a .168 ISO on the year -- both marks have been good for No. 10 in all of baseball.

Rangers' Shin-Soo Choo: Sits again Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Choo is out of the lineup for Sunday's ALDS Game 3 against the Blue Jays.

Choo started the last three games of the regular season and Game 1 of the series, but is now set to sit his second in a row in favor of Nomar Mazara in right field. Although it's a small sample size, Choo is hitless against Sunday's opposing starter Aaron Sanchez. On the other hand, Mazara has collected two base knocks in six at-bats.
