Rangers starting pitcher Nick Tepesch, who missed his scheduled start Wednesday with a blister issue, was fine in a bullpen session Thursday and should be on track to start Sunday against the Mariners, Fox Sports Southwest reports.

Tepesch has made eight starts for the Rangers this season, going 3-4 with a 3.98 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 31 strikeouts in 43 innings.

Rangers starting pitcher Colby Lewis (elbow) had no issues throwing a bullpen session Thursday, according to FOX Sports Southwest. Lewis will make a rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock Saturday, which is scheduled to go four innings or 60 pitches.

Rangers manager Ron Washington has been as hard on outfielder Leonys Martin as he was on Elvis Andrus before he developed into an All-Star shortstop, MLB.com notes.

"Martin is a very good baseball player and he certainly has the ceiling to get better," Washington said. "How good? I think we'll just have to wait and see."

Martin continues to split playing time in center field with Craig Gentry as he learns how to adjust to a 162-game schedule. However, his playing time has been on the rise lately because his offensive production has taken off. Martin has started eight of the last 10 games through Wednesday and has hit safely in seven straight (.381).

Still, Washington feels Martin has plenty of room to improve offensively.

"I think he's still trying to find that," Washington said. "The thing is he's getting comfortable and getting his confidence together, and that's the key."

The Rangers signed veteran Mark Teahen to a minor-league contract Thursday. Teahen was released by the Diamondbacks May 20.

Teahen had been playing for Arizona's Triple-A team prior to his release. Teahen hit .211 with three doubles and five RBI in 22 games for Reno.

The Rangers announced Thursday reliever Derek Lowe was released after clearing waivers Wednesday. The veteran right-hander was designated for assignment Monday.
