Rangers' Mitch Moreland: Settles arbitration, agrees to one-year deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mitch Moreland agreed to a one-year, $5.7 million contract with the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Moreland's 2015 campaign was his best as a full-time major league player, earning him a nice payday in his last year of arbitration before the 30-year-old is eligible to hit the open market. While he's not one of the top-tier first baseman, Moreland provides enough power (23 home runs last season), and bats in the middle of an order good enough to make him a nice fantasy option for those deciding to wait.

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Hopes to start throwing bullpen sessions in March
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Darvish (elbow) hopes to start throwing bullpen sessions in March but will still report to spring training with the rest of the Rangers' pitchers and catchers, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Darvish has been throwing six days a week, with some days at longer distances mixed with others at shorter distances, including flat-ground work on his cutter, two-seam and changeup. The timetable hasn't changed much for Darvish's planned return in May, but it's encouraging to see that he's still on track and is mixing in his secondary offerings.

Rangers' Doug Bernier: Signs with Rangers
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Bernier agreed to a minor league deal with the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Bernier spent last season in the Twins' organization, slashing .256/.340/.306 in 95 games at the Triple-A level. The 35-year-old has limited big-league experience in his career and figures to serve as nothing more than infield depth for the Rangers.

Rangers' Jake Diekman: Agrees to deal to avoid arbitration
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jake Diekman agreed to a one-year, $1.255 million contract with the Texas Rangers on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Diekman struggled in his time with the Phillies before a change of scenery occurred midseason when both he and Cole Hamels were sent to Arlington and the Rangers. A strong finish to the season (2.08 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) earned him some decent pay in his first year of arbitration. While the 29-year-old southpaw should remain one of the better left-handed options out of the Rangers' bullpen, he likely won't see many (if any) save opportunities, and a 3.60 FIP certainly leaves reason to temper any expectations.

Rangers' Steve Johnson: Signs minor league contract with Rangers on Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Steve Johnson signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

Johnson was designated for assignment on December 2 by the Orioles after Mark Trumbo was acquired, and the Rangers became the team to ultimately pounce on the right-hander. The 25-year-old primarily pitched with Triple-A Norfolk last season, posting a 2.30 ERA and 11.1 K/9 in 54.2 innings with the Tides, but also had two rough appearances with Baltimore. Johnson will compete for a spot in the Rangers bullpen during spring training if he can get major league hitters out consistently.
