Rangers' Mitch Moreland likely on bench until Friday
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Rangers designated hitter Mitch Moreland likely won't be in the team's starting lineup for most of this week.

While Moreland has been bothered by loose bodies in his elbow, his benching isn't injury-related. The Rangers will be playing interleague games at Arizona, so the team won't be using a DH. Prince Fielder will be at first base for the games, per the Star Telegram

Rangers pitcher Anthony Bass finds success in appearance Sunday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Rangers pitcher Anthony Bass was the lone bright spot of Texas' pitching staff Sunday, going 3 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in the 11-10 loss to the Mariners.

Bass allowed four hits and lowered his ERA to 3.14 in the outing, drawing the attention of manager Jeff Banister, according to MLB.com.

"Bass is throwing the ball really well," manager Jeff Banister said. "I can't say enough about what he has done. It's a role he fits into and is comfortable with. We'll evaluate every situation and see how he continues to pitch out of the bullpen."

Tanner Scheppers takes blame for Rangers' pen meltdown
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Reliever Tanner Scheppers was not sharp Sunday and it cost the Rangers as they squandered a late lead in an 11-10 loss to the Mariners.

The set-up man came into the game in the eighth inning with Texas ahead 10-6, but he walked three of the four batters he faced, the start of an eventual slide that would finish with a walk-off single against closer Neftali Feliz by Nelson Cruz.

In his second appearance since coming off the disabled list, Scheppers struggled to find the strike zone or a comfortable release point.

"I was battling myself," Scheppers said. "I couldn't get on top of the baseball and couldn't make the adjustment."

Rangers P Ross Detwiler's spot in starting rotation safe for now
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

Rangers pitcher Ross Detwiler struggled again on Sunday, allowing five runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings against the Mariners, but manager Jeff Banister said he's sticking with the lefty in the starting rotation, reports the Dallas Morning News.

"We’re going to continue to work with Ross and have him go out there and start. I look for him to do better," Bannister said.

Detwiler (0-2) did not take a decision Sunday but surrendered three home runs and now sits with a 10.95 ERA after three starts.

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Rangers outfielder Jake Smolinski went 2 for 4 at the plate with a home run in Texas' 11-10 loss to the Mariners Sunday.
