Nationals' Logan Schafer: Signs minor league contract
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Logan Schafer signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals that includes an invitation to spring training, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.

Schafer appeared in 69 games for Milwaukee last season, recording a .221/.299/.311 slash line to go along with one home in 122 at-bats (he has hit just five homers in his major league career). The 29-year-old has never been known for his offensive, but he can play every outfield spot, making him a potentially useful bench player for Washington in 2016.

Nationals' Bryce Harper: Open to contract extension
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bryce Harper said Thursday that he's open to a contract extension with the Washington Nationals , the team's website reports. "I'm definitely excited to be part of the Nationals organization," said Harper. "I think that being able to play in [Nationals Park], this city, this town, around the fans, it's such a great place to play. Baseball is up and coming... I'm very excited to further my career with the Nationals. I have a couple of more years in D.C., and then hopefully at the end of that, we can do what we can and I can be a National for life, hopefully."

He's not eligible for free agency for another three years, but Harper is headed for some big arbitration awards before then if he isn't locked up. Mike Trout signed a six-year, $144.5 million extension in 2014 that bought out his arbitration years, and given his numbers last year and the fact that Scott Boras is his agent, you can expect Harper to look for something better than that if the Nats want to follow suit.

Nationals' Scott Sizemore: Signs with Nationals
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scott Sizemore signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals on Friday, William Ladson of MLB.com reports.

Sizemore didn't appear in the majors in 2015, slashing .263/.369/.354 at Triple-A and has appeared in just eight major league games since 2011. He'll have a shot to earn a utility role with the Nationals out of spring training, but it's possible he spends much of the season back in the minors again.

Nationals' Bryce Harper: Wins NL MVP Award
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Harper was named the 2015 NL MVP by the Baseball Writers' Association of America on Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Most fans saw Harper as the only logical winner, and that was reflected in the voting, as Harper was the unanimous choice with all 30 first-place votes. Harper exploded with a .330/.460/.649 slash line in 2015, leading the NL with 42 homers and finishing second with 124 walks. A case can be made to take Harper, who is younger than NL Rookie of the Year Kris Bryant, with the first overall pick in drafts in 2016.

Nationals' Nick Lee: Added to 40-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lee was added to the Washington Nationals ' 40-man roster Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington reports.

The lefty enjoyed a fare amount of success between High-A and Double-A in 2015 despite a 5.7 BB/9, turning in a 3.12 ERA, 57 strikeouts and 10 saves in 40 appearances. Lee was added to the 40-man to protect him from next month's Rule 5 draft, but he will need to rein in the control before he gets a major league opportunity, let alone a chance in any high-leverage spots.
