Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Expected back Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Zimmerman (ribs) is expected to be activated from the DL on Tuesday, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.

Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a run in his first rehab assignment game for Low-A Potomac on Thursday and figures to get several more tune ups before returning to the majors shortly after the weekend. The 31-year-old was placed on the DL on July 8 with a left rib cage strain but has progressed through his rehab with no setbacks. He'll reassume a .221/.284/.402 slash line when he returns to the Nationals.

Nationals' Sammy Solis: Will begin rehab Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Solis (knee) will begin a rehab assignment for High-A Potomac on Friday, Kan Kolko of MASN reports.

The 27-year-old left-hander is having a terrific year for the Nationals, posting a 2.43 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. If Solis comes out of his rehab appearance with no setbacks, he could rejoin the Nationals rotation at some point next week.

Nationals' Joe Ross: Will make rehab start Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Ross (shoulder) will make a rehab start on Sunday for Class-A Hagerstown, Dan Kolko of MASN reports.

If all goes well for Ross in his rehab start, he could rejoin the Nationals rotation next Saturday against the Giants. Ross has been on the disabled list since July 3 with shoulder inflammation.

Nationals' Trea Turner: Starting fifth straight game
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Turner will play second base and hit seventh as the Nationals host the Padres on Friday, Dan Kolko of MASN reports.

Turner will look to extend his five-game hitting streak tonight as the Nationals face Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo. In his short time with the Nationals, Turner is hitting .290/.313/.452 with three stolen bases in 31 at-bats. With Ryan Zimmerman (ribs) and Stephen Drew (illness) expected to return soon, Turner must continue to play well if he wants to remain on the Nationals roster.

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Drops first game of 2016 on Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Strasburg (13-1) pitched six innings Thursday, allowing six runs, seven hits and one walk while striking out 10 Dodgers in his first loss of the season.

Even though his record is no longer spotless, Strasburg is enjoying perhaps his best season in the majors. Thursday, he recorded his eighth double-digit strikeout game of the year, second only to the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw (nine) this season. Despite Strasburg's worst outing of the 2016 campaign, and the first time he has allowed six-plus runs in a game since May 12, 2015, Washington's ace still has a sweet 2.83 ERA. Although it may be a little later than expected, the top pick of the 2009 MLB Draft is a legitimate NL Cy Young candidate headed toward the home stretch.
