It may look on paper as if the Sox are taking a step back as they blend youngsters Chris Getz (second base) and Josh Fields (third base) into the mix with veterans Paul Konerko, Jim Thome and A.J. Pierzynski. Don't fall for it. These Sox have a nice mix of starting pitching (Mark Buehrle, John Danks, Gavin Floyd) and, especially, bullpen help (Bobby Jenks, Octavio Dotel, Scott Linebrink, Matt Thornton) to remain in contention. Manager Ozzie Guillen's biggest issue is in center field, where Jerry Owens can field but can't hit, DeWayne Wise shows flashes but not consistency and Brian Anderson played himself out of serious contention. In a perfect Sox world, the center fielder would hit leadoff, because they lack that, too. Don't be surprised if they make a move for a CF. If Carlos Quentin repeats his MVP-caliber season before getting hurt in 2008, look out.
