Scott Miller's Take

It may look on paper as if the Sox are taking a step back as they blend youngsters Chris Getz (second base) and Josh Fields (third base) into the mix with veterans Paul Konerko, Jim Thome and A.J. Pierzynski. Don't fall for it. These Sox have a nice mix of starting pitching (Mark Buehrle, John Danks, Gavin Floyd) and, especially, bullpen help (Bobby Jenks, Octavio Dotel, Scott Linebrink, Matt Thornton) to remain in contention. Manager Ozzie Guillen's biggest issue is in center field, where Jerry Owens can field but can't hit, DeWayne Wise shows flashes but not consistency and Brian Anderson played himself out of serious contention. In a perfect Sox world, the center fielder would hit leadoff, because they lack that, too. Don't be surprised if they make a move for a CF. If Carlos Quentin repeats his MVP-caliber season before getting hurt in 2008, look out.

2008 record: 88-74, .543 pct. (1st in AL Central)
As White Sox manager: Ozzie Guillen, entering 6th year (433-378)
Stadium: U.S. Cellular Field (40,615; grass)

Top Prospects
1. Aaron Poreda, LH/SP
Route to the Majors is still to be determined. Could be developed n the minors or in the 'pen.
2. Gordon Beckham, SS
One of college's elite slugging shortstops could be on the fast track to the majors by year's end.
3. Tyler Flowers, C
Highlight of the Javier Vazquez trade and Flowers will eventually replace A.J. Pierzynski.
4. Brandon Allen, , 1B
Slugger provides nice insurance for the aging Jim Thome and Paul Konerko at DH and first base this season.
5. Chris Getz, 2B
Could win the second base job, over Brent Lillibridge. Minor league stats are suitable for leadoff role.
Complete AL Central prospects

Alexei Ramirez finished second in the 2008 AL ROY balloting and set a rookie record with four grand slams on the season. (AP)

Apparently Williams is not wasting any time.  Teahan was just acquired from KC for Getz and Fields.  This could be a good trade.  Teahan has some pop.   He has logged many games in the OF.  I still do not see him as a starter, yet, but he can be a great utility player.  At 28, there is still room for him to grow.  I love Dye, but the past 3 years his seco ...(more)

(POLL) This article ranks Kenny Williams 8th of all the GMs.  I personally think he should at least be number 7 maybe even number 6.  How can you rank Cashman in the top 10 considering he has unlimited funds.  I think we are lucky to have such a GM like KW and I think that he gets blamed for a lot of crap by us fans.  He gets told how much money he can spend on payroll and he is able ...(more)

Ok, so I know someone that was/is at the GM meetings this weekend, a writer for the NYY. He was listening to Q&A with Williams and this is what he heard: Basically Williams doesn't think they have enough money for a major free agent, specific names brought up were Damon and Vlad. When asked about Figgins, he said they wouldn't have enough money for him.

He also heard him

(POLL) I've scoured the eligible Free Agents for the upcoming off season going into 2010.  What I want you to do is factor is these guys' age, the cost it would take to sign one of these players and whether he fits in with our ballclub.  There really isn't a ton of great options, there are a few solid players who are still in their prime but might command a fortune.  Several of the players ...(more)

Kenny Williams has come out again and said that the Sox have limited funds for FA's this year. I went to quite a few games this year, and based on what I saw in the stands, I can see why.
Here are some under the radar guys that might work.  I really think we should add a minimum of 2 reilief pitchers, and more if we trade Jenks....

This one was on the front page of ESPN Today under the rumor section: Insider

I just wanted to get everybody's thoughts as to whether or not CF/LF/DH Johnny Damon would be a good fit on the south side and if he still has enough left in the tank to contribute as an everyday player/lead-off hitter.

Heard this on 670am (Chicago radio station) this morning. The rumor was the Sox were offering Jenks and a few prospects for Crawford. Just wanted to here your thought.

I would make the trade. This gives us one of the best leadoff hitters in the game. He is exactly what the Sox need. He gets on base, has good power, steals bases and plays good defense. He can play Cf and we can rotate Qu

(POLL) I've done some more extensive research on the Lead-off Hitters around the Majors.  While some of these guys currently do not lead-off, they did for an extended period at one time or another during their career.  Don't get me wrong, some of these guys are better suited hitting in the 2nd or 3rd spot in the order.  I took several factors into consideration for my rankings when it come ...(more)

A buddy of mine just texted me that the Sox traded Chris Getz and Josh Fields for Mark Tehan. Anybody else hear about this and what's your general feelings. I'm not even sure how I feel about this trade yet. Still letting it sink in.
