Season Preview

Danny Knobler's Take

The pitching looks pretty good, but the small-ball plan still looks questionable. Willy Taveras still hasn’t proven he can get on base consistently, and the Reds haven’t proven they have any way to replace Adam Dunn’s production. Joey Votto and Jay Bruce are going to have to be every bit as good as they were last year -- or maybe better. And Aaron Harang has to go from being a 17-game loser to being the 16-game winner he was in 2006-07.

Top Prospects
1. Christopher Valaika, SS
Reds' 2008 Minor League Player of the Year, could reach the majors before the end of 2009.
2. Todd Frazier, SS
Still needs more work in the minors and might end up moving to outfield to accomodate Valaika.
3. Yonder Alonso, 1B
First rounder in '08 on fast track to majors, but blocked by Joey Votto.
4. Chris Dickerson, OF
Power-speed combo strikes out too much, but already in majors.
5. Daryl Thompson, RH/SP
Promising young starter, competed for the fifth spot this spring.
