Season Preview
Scott Miller's Take
What Colorado needs is a really good start, for reasons both competitive (the Rockies historically have dug too many early holes for themselves) and psychological (both manager Clint Hurdle and GM Dan O'Dowd are entering the final seasons of contracts). Problem is, only three of their first 14 games are at home. And they've already lost starter Jeff Francis for the season. Nobody will be surprised if a slow start results in bench coach Jim Tracy, the former Dodgers skipper, replacing Hurdle. Now, the good news: First baseman Todd Helton, returning from back surgery, has been outstanding at the plate this spring. And shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, the backbone of the '07 World Series team, is healthy after what can charitably be described as a learning year in '08.
Big-time power potential, but high strikeouts and is inconsistent.
4.
Christian Friedrich, LH/SP
First-round pick in '08, could reach majors quickly.
5.
Wilin Rosario, C
A top catching prospect still a ways away and blocked by Iannetta.
Troy Tulowitzki had a strong rookie year in 2007 (.291 BA, 99 RBI, 24 HR) but faltered in 2008 after a leg injury slowed his production. (US Presswire)
Obviously a number of people have expressed all kinds of ideas as to how to structure next year's team. some of them have been pretty radical. But I am not trying to shoot anyone's ideas down, as we don't really know what will happen, which I guess is part of the fun. I really think first we should keep as many of last year's key pieces as we can, and then try to add a key piece

The Rockies have another chance to go get a player they should have gone after last season: Orlando Hudson.
I'd love to see them make an offer of three years and $10 million and let's see what he says. That's about the money they're going to offer Barmes, I suspect. I'd muc

So Jim Tracy is the NL Manager of the Year offically now. The Rockies also signed him to a 3 year contract today. I had a feeling that it would all happen on the same day. Maybe alittle bonus in with winning the award and well derserved. Tracy is a great fit to this team and how well the Rockies responded when Hurdles tenure ended spe

I just read the post about trying to get TULOWITZKI'S autograph and made me think of a memorable autograph. I thought if anyone else had an interesting autograph story they could post here.
My parents took me and my siblings (there were 6 of us: 5 boys and 1 girl) to a Rockies game when they were playing at the old Mile High Stad

The story is this: I helped my 9 year old in July write fan letters to about 8 players in MLB. He enclosed a baseball card with his letter and a self addressed stamped envelope. I, myself, did this quite a bit when I was a kid. The player would simply sign the card and return it and the child is left with a momento of his favorite players. However, on this occasion, he got the card sent back un
Man you look around and there isn't to many right handed bats that can out produce what we already have. But being loaded with leftys we know the writing is on the wall for Brad Hawpe so here goes. We trade Hawpe and a minor league pitcher for ..... Juston Upton. I know I've said in the past I don't like trading within our own
I would really like to see the Rockies bring in a star and show that they want to win a championship. We need pitching for that to happen. The Giants are going to get some bats, we need some arms to compete with Lincy/Cain. Here are two pitchers that are on the market: If

Lets be the first team in NL west to make a serious move on improving there team. Why wait for the Dodgers to make some type of deal through free agentcy or a trade for pitching. Or the Giants to better themselves with some hitting. I'm really not hot on to many of the FA out there, mo

Another amazing defensive season for Mr. Todd Helton and yet again he gets passed over for the Gold Glove award. This season Helton made only 3 errors and had a .998 fielding percentage. Good enough for the gold glove........ummmmm no. Your winner is
