The big spring decision was to send David Price back to the minor leagues. The Rays explained the move by saying they can better limit Price’s innings in Triple-A, and that they want him pitching for them with fewer restrictions in September and maybe October. The problem is that every win should be crucial in the American League East, and after a fairly smooth and very much magic ride in 2008, the Rays figure to see a few bumps in 2009. That doesn’t mean what happened in ’08 was a fluke -- it most definitely wasn’t -- but especially in this division, it’s easy to see this team missing the playoffs this year.
