The changes began last winter when franchise fixture Garret Anderson and record-setting closer Francisco Rodriguez left via free agency. This winter has the potential to be just as significant a transition period for the Angels, as the team has seven potential free agents, including key players John Lackey, Chone Figgins and Vladimir Guerrero.

"Every year there's always going to be a little bit of change in any clubhouse. We had our share of it last year," manager Mike Scioscia said. "This is obviously a group that we want to keep together and keep moving forward with. Some of the decisions are going to be out of (Angels GM Tony Reagins') hands, and I'm sure he's going to be proactive on ones that can get done.

"There are always decisions that have to happen every year. We have our share of them this year, for sure."

One player who won't be going anywhere is right fielder Bobby Abreu, who agreed to a two-year, $19 million deal on Nov. 5.

Lackey and Figgins figure to be two of the more eagerly courted players on the free agent market this winter, and the Angels figure to have an uphill battle trying to retain their services.

Guerrero, meanwhile, is a different case. The consensus is that the future Hall of Famer's skills are in decline. How much teams think he has left will determine just how hot the market for him is this winter.

"I still think Vlad has the potential to be very productive," Scioscia said.

Guerrero was limited to 100 games in 2009 (all but two at DH) and hit .295 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs -- all career lows since his 90-game rookie season with the Expos in 1997.

The Angels enter the off season with $50 million in expiring contracts. The club, roughly, had a payroll of $114M in 2009. I will give my suggestions on what the team needs to do as they prepare for 2010. Note: Age in parenthesis, money they made in 2009.

I'm glad they signed Abreu. Now we need to re-sign John Lackey. I do not care what the cost is, Keep in mind that John Lackey has been our bull dog since 2002. He is a clutch pitcher and we need to show him some loyalty. Boras is not his agent, so I think if they brought him in expressed how much he means to us and get a deal don ...(more)

Well it only took one world series game to see what the Angels could have had if they weren't so afraid and cheap. Lee was one of the available aces that they could have pick up. lee and lackey would have been a one two punch that would have beat the Yanks. Well of cost they pass on him and now we are alll watching the series. learn your le ...(more)

Yes, we didn't go all the way, but I am still very proud of how well this team did this season. After the start to the season, this team could have just quit and stopped trying for the rest of the year. But they were on a mission to win the division, and hopefully win the world series. Well, they won the division, beat the Red Sox (somethin ...(more)

Fuentes,Shields & Putz would be outstanding...
Putz power pitching is more condusive to the 9th inning situations, sometimes needing a k....
Fuentes & Shields set up & give the halos many options w/ their versatile arms...
The pen would get longer w/ these 3 guys...
No disrespect to Fuentes,he did a good job...I just think a power arm like Smith,Percy,K-Rod  i.e

Every website I go to, the Angels salary for 2009 is $118mil.  Now this does not count the $10mil that was owed to Escobar.  Since he was on the DL, did he still get this amount?  As far I see it, the seven free agent Angels made over $50mil before bonuses.  Thats $50mil to play with in the free agent market.  Yes, ...(more)

What a double play turned by Erick Aybar in last night's game!  With his back to the infield he takes the feed from Izturis, spins around and throws a strike to Kendry Morales for the double play.  It's one of the best double plays I've seen.  Thi ...(more)

I think I was more prepared to pitch tonight than Scott Kazmir. If I was at that game, I would have most likely unbolted my seat and thrown it on the field.

This Angels team that I have watched over the past several years reminds a lot of the

As the ALDS showed us past results aren't a true indicator of future performance. That being said the Angels, certainly, enter their ALCS showdown versus the Yankees with a lot of confidence - not to mention a decade long period of on field dominance against the Bronx Bombers. Due to ...(more)

Just gotta love GMJ and his sensitive manner of handling his poor performance the last three years while raking in $30M.

I love Scioscia and hope he manages the Angels for as long as he can, but this series was not his best moments as a manager. Many decisions that were so out of character for him.
