--RHP Kelvim Escobar (torn labrum) underwent an MRI on his right shoulder Wednesday, and it showed no changes from this spring, manager Mike Scioscia said, and Escobar received a cortisone shot in the shoulder on Thursday. But when he tried playing catch before Friday's game, he stopped the throwing session after fewer than 10 throws because of pain in his shoulder. Escobar is once again considering season-ending surgery.

--RHP Chris Bootcheck (forearm strain) was activated from the disabled list and outrighted to Triple-A. Bootcheck cleared waivers and can decline the assignment and become a free agent. Bootcheck has a 10.13 ERA in 10 appearances with the Angels this season.

--OF Gary Matthews Jr. had just two RBI in his previous 17 games before driving in one run with a sixth-inning double on Friday. Matthews is batting just .192 (10 for 52) in his past 18 games.

--Friday's win ended a streak of 18 consecutive games against the Blue Jays in which they were held to four runs or less (dating back to May 17, 2006).

--OF Garret Anderson had one home run in 42 games before he hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning on Tuesday. He hit another one on Friday (after not playing Wednesday or Thursday, an off day for the Angels) and also had two singles in a 3-for-4 game. He is 5 for 8 in July after batting .188 (15 for 80) in June.

BY THE NUMBERS
5 -- Times since 1900 a team has held the opposition hitless in a complete game. The Angels did it in a 1-0 loss to the Dodgers on Saturday.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"A little weird outcome." -- Angels RHP Jered Weaver, after combining with Jose Arredondo on eight no-hit innings but losing 1-0 to the Dodgers on Saturday.

The Angels announced that Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler would not be returning to the Angels' broadcast booth next season. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I've never been a fan of Physioc, he just comes off as too corny and "aw shucks" for my taste. But Hudler has always been entertaining, even while repeatedly talking himself ...(more)

The Angels should do everything they can to keep Lackey, and yes if that means paying him $18 million a year for 5 years then do it.  My reasons are simple, for one show some loyalty to a guy who has done nothing but get better each year he has been with us. Two, Lackey is a clutch big game big situation pitcher. Three, Lackey has a ba ...(more)

what do you think if we just stuck with what we have in the pitching dept. and picked up Justin duchscherer as a 5th starter...
he wouldnt demand alot of money! he is a low risk high reward kinda guy to me...

There have been specualating rumor that the Angels are about to make a trade.  Not just one trade but several.  One of them might be B Wood, E Santana, G Matthews Jr and pitching prospect J Walden to Toronto for R Halladay.   Even though they hate to give up E Santana that is who Toronto wanted, a starter to replace Hall ...(more)

MLBTRADERUMORS just reported that granderson has become a possibilty for a trade... I think the Angels showed look very closely into this... they could eat GMJ contract and replace him with granderson ... This would allow figgy to walk and wood to play third full time...
this gives us a 5 tool lead off hitter and moves juan rivera to

I'm glad they signed Abreu. Now we need to re-sign John Lackey. I do not care what the cost is, Keep in mind that John Lackey has been our bull dog since 2002. He is a clutch pitcher and we need to show him some loyalty. Boras is not his agent, so I think if they brought him in expressed how much he means to us and get a deal don ...(more)

Fuentes,Shields & Putz would be outstanding...
Putz power pitching is more condusive to the 9th inning situations, sometimes needing a k....
Fuentes & Shields set up & give the halos many options w/ their versatile arms...
The pen would get longer w/ these 3 guys...
No disrespect to Fuentes,he did a good job...I just think a power arm like Smith,Percy,K-Rod  i.e

The Angels enter the off season with $50 million in expiring contracts. The club, roughly, had a payroll of $114M in 2009. I will give my suggestions on what the team needs to do as they prepare for 2010. Note: Age in parenthesis, money they made in 2009.

Vladimir Guererro (35) $15M - Vladdy had a good po ...(more)
